1. Show HN: Jq-Like Tool for Markdown

Show HN: Jq-Like Tool for Markdown - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/yshavit/mdq

Author: yshavit

Description: There have been a few times I wanted the ability to select some text out of a Markdown doc. For example, a GitHub CI check to ensure that PRs / issues / etc are properly formatted.

This can be done to some extent with regex, but those expressions are brittle and hard to read or edit later. mdq uses a familiar pipe syntax to navigate the Markdown in a structured way.

It's in 0.x because I don't want to fully commit to the syntax being stable, in case real-world testing shows that the syntax needs tweaking. But I think the project is in a pretty good spot overall, and would be interested in feedback!

Description: Hey HN,

I built SQL Premier League – a site where you solve SQL challenges using real IPL cricket data.

Instead of querying boring datasets (employees, sales, etc.), you write SQL queries to analyze real IPL matches—find top run scorers, best finishers, clutch bowlers, and more!

The website is open-source as well : https://github.com/Spyyy004/SQLPremierLeague-Frontend/

4. Show HN: Cardog – AI interface for vehicle ownership

Show HN: Cardog – AI interface for vehicle ownership - Project Screenshot

URL: https://cardog.ai

Author: samsullivan

Description: Hi HN! I wanted to share something I've been working on after an interesting pivot. Last year I built a vehicle search tool that ran into legal issues with major listing sites. That experience led me to tackle a different problem - making the entire car ownership experience more accessible and data-driven.

Ended up building an AI interface that helps research any vehicle, access documentation, and manage ownership - think having a car expert, market analyst, and personal assistant rolled into one. Core features:

- Natural language interface to research any vehicle, parse manuals, and search relevant web/YouTube content (think perplexity for cars)

  • Monitor market values and listings across North America
  • Track maintenance, service records, registration dates for your garage
  • Store ownership documents, recall info, service bulletins

    Live demo: https://cardog.ai | Example: Ask about reliability ratings for the latest SUVs or "What should I look for when buying a used Model 3?"

    Would love to hear what aspects of car ownership you find most frustrating.

5. Show HN: I wasted 3 months building a tool that helps you waste even more time

URL: #

Author: sashimikun

Description: I've built yet another thing the world probably doesn't need: "RabbitHoles" an open sourced AI-powered search engine for people who excel at procrastination and getting absolutely nothing done.

Let me be real: I'm not claiming to have reinvented the wheel here. There are a lot of search engines out there. But I wanted to create something different, something that encouraged exploration and endless discovery.

Why did I build it?

Excellent question! Instead of doing literally anything productive, I decided to build a tool that enables others to waste time as efficiently as I do. It visualizes how different ideas connect, which is fancy talk for "I made my ADHD browsing habits into an app."

So, what does it do?

RabbitHoles lets you enter a topic, and then uses AI to generate related concepts and connections, visualizing them in an interactive mind map. You can click on nodes to dive deeper, uncover subtopics, and basically get wonderfully lost in the depths of knowledge. RabbitHoles creates interactive mind maps of connected topics, ensuring you'll never actually finish that important work project.

Tech under the hood:

Frontend: React, TypeScript, React Flow, Tailwind CSS

Backend: Node.js, Express, Tavily, Google Gemini 2.0 Flash

Check it out!

Whether you're a professional time-waster, a chronic overthinker, or just someone looking for new ways to avoid productivity, RabbitHoles is here to enable your worst habits. Give it a try and let me know how many hours of your life you've successfully wasted!

PS: If anyone asks, this is technically "learning" and "expanding your knowledge base," not procrastination. I'll die on this hill.

Thanks for reading my manifesto on professional time-wasting. May your curiosity lead you far from whatever you're supposed to be doing right now!

7. Show HN: trv. A tool to turn a presentation and speaker notes into a video

Show HN: trv. A tool to turn a presentation and speaker notes into a video - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/transformrs/trv

Author: huijzer

Description: Videos can be very effective in teaching, but I myself never make them because I don't like narrating videos nor video editing. So that got me thinking whether text-to-speech can be used to generate videos automatically. That's what I hacked together now in the trv Rust crate (it's a binary that you can install via cargo install, see https://github.com/transformrs/trv for the source code and docs).

It's a tool that you can give a Typst presentation with speaker notes to. Next, the tool will turn the Typst file into images and audio, and then turn everything into a video.

For example, I made one I video about a blog post that I wrote earlier. Unfortunately, I cannot directly upload a video here on HN, so here is a link: https://youtu.be/vn8-Asioxq8.

To give an idea of how the video was made, here is the first slide of the Typst presentation:

    #import "@preview/polylux:0.4.0": *

#set page(paper: "presentation-16-9", margin: 1in)
#set text(size: 30pt)

#slide[
    #toolbox.pdfpc.speaker-note(
    ```md
    Iterators are pretty cool.
    For example, in Python we could write the following code in a normal loop.
    Here we have a list of 3 values and we add 1 to each value.
    This returns a new list with the values `[2, 3, 4]`.
    ```
    )

    ```python
    values = [1, 2, 3]
    for i in range(len(values)):
        values[i] += 1
    print(values)
    # [2, 3, 4]
    ```
]

Next, I ran the following command:

    $ trv --input=presentation.typ
--model='hexgrad/Kokoro-82M'
--voice='am_liam'
--release"
This created a video of 1.2 MB that I then uploaded to YouTube.

Is a tool like this useful? What are your thoughts?

11. Show HN: Malicious code detector

Show HN: Malicious code detector - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/apiiro/PRevent

Author: mgiladi

Description: Hey HN,

I built a GitHub app that detects malicious code in pull requests and notifies or blocks them. Alongside it, I published a Semgrep ruleset for any stage of the CI/CD.

I started this after getting frustrated by all the FUD around malicious code - lots of noise, little effort to solve it. While discussing new threats is important, hyping every piece of code no one ever uses isn’t helping.

That said, malicious commits are a major attack vector - a stored RCE, with the codebase itself as the sink. That’s why I built this.

Would love to hear your feedback. Cheers, Matan

12. Show HN: Mapping historical markers around the world

Show HN: Mapping historical markers around the world - Project Screenshot

URL: https://www.explorehere.app/download

Author: wesvance

Description: I saw the 'map of torii' post yesterday and thought y'all might like to see the small app I've been working on that uses HMDB.org data to map historical markers around the world.

HMDB has been aggregating markers for over 15 years and back when I was living out of my van and traveling full-time I wanted to get notified whenever I passed one, so I built a mobile app around that.

I think historical markers are underrated - as a physical marker they make history tangible. Rather than reading about history from a classroom, you get the opportunity to see and engage with it at the source. If you're already nearby, they are often worth the stop to learn more.

Since releasing the iOS app a few years ago, I've been able to enhance the markers with summaries (which makes reading the content a lot more palatable), and converting them to audio, so you can listen to markers when you're driving. Yesterday I officially released the android app, with the same features as the iOS app.

Show HN: Screenrecorder.me – Make screen recordings directly in the browser - Project Screenshot

URL: https://screenrecorder.me

Author: johnwheeler

Description: Hi HN,

I've been working on this project for the last 5 months, inspired by Screen Studio but runs 100% in the browser.

Here is a demo of the editor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7-etsFZgPI

One of the big challenges of using the browser is getDisplayMedia, the API for recording screens, doesn't provide mouse coordinates for security reasons. Mouse coordinates are important for auto-focus animations. So I trained a YOLOv11 model to detect mouse cursors and I run inference in real time while you record.

Also, I created my own Remotion-style renderer because I started with remotion and had a hard time adapting my particular codebase with to work with it as well as other challenges. It's great but I just had more success doing it myself for my use case, and it was an amazing learning experience.

Show HN: Shijima-Qt – Desktop Pets for Linux, macOS and Windows - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/pixelomer/Shijima-Qt

Author: pixelomer

Description: Shijima-Qt is a cross-platform desktop app for running a category of desktop pets called "shimeji". They are little mascots that run around on your desktop, grab onto windows and get angry when you hold them and throw them around. The original shimeji program is quite old and there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of shimeji already available on the internet. I initially made Shijima to run these desktop pets on iOS but since Linux didn't have an app for them either, I decided to port it to desktop as well. Shijima-Qt is still in its early stages so if you're interested in this sort of thing I'd appreciate your feedback :)

21. Show HN: STRMNL – Strava plugin for TRMNL device

Show HN: STRMNL – Strava plugin for TRMNL device - Project Screenshot

URL: https://strmnl.app/

Author: calineczka

Description: I built this using Cloudflare workers and https://usetrmnl.com/framework/ and I gotta say I love how it ends up looking on the TRMNL device.

Sadly Strava seems to be returning incorrect data for some users for their athlete stats, but other than that I am quite happy using their API.

Typescript is not my primary language, it was my first time using Cloudflare Workers and Hono.js. AIs don't seem to know that well how to work in those environments and whenever you want them to suggest a library, they usually come up with something that you cannot use initially. So it was a bit of a challenge, but also a great learning opportunity.

See every few minutes how much I moved (or not moved) definitely makes me more active so the goal was achieved for myself.

Description: Hi HN! My son and I built AudioPrank to have some fun with real-time sound effects. It uses netlib (a free WebRTC signaling service I helped create at Poki) so that everything runs in the browser—no extra backend or sign-ups needed.

How it works:

1. Open AudioPrank and start a room. 2. On another device, open the site and join the room. 3. Trigger farts, animal sounds, or creepy noises instantly from one device to the other.

Backstory:

Backstory: Poki built netlib as a lightweight, free-to-use WebRTC signaling layer for game developers. I personally wanted a playful way to demonstrate its possibilities. My son suggested making a prank site and this is what we came up with.

Feedback or ideas are welcome, thanks for checking it out!

28. Show HN: Open-source dev agent dev who tackles tech debt

Show HN: Open-source dev agent dev who tackles tech debt - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/scaliseraoul/ambrogio

Author: raoulscalise

Description: Hi HN,

I built a dev agent to reduce code debt in Python repositories. For now, it does one thing very well: adding docstrings to Python classes and methods. It also adds unit tests, though this feature is still a work in progress.

# Why?

As AI becomes more integrated into development workflows, code debt will only accumulate faster. Refactoring takes time, and no one has time to focus solely on reducing code debt.

# Approach

While there are many developer tools available, our approach combines language models with deterministic tools to minimize the risk of hallucinations. Specifically, we use:

  • LibCST: A reliable parser and serializer for Python, ensuring that Ambrogio always generates a valid Python syntax tree.
  • Interrogate: A docstring coverage tool that helps verify improvements and maintain high standards.
  • Coverage and Pytest: We identify uncovered lines and test the generated unit tests until they run successfully.

    The goal is to make it so robust and stable that it can automatically pick and resolve tech debt tasks.

    # Try It

    If you have a GitHub open-source repo, you can simply visit https://ambrogio-platform.streamlit.app/ and submit your repository. In a few minutes, you’ll receive a pull request directly on GitHub. (no API key needed or registration)

    Installation

    - pip install ambrogio

    Docstring generation:

    ambrogio

    Unit tests generation:

    ambrogio --mode coverage

    It supports all models provided by LiteLLM.

    # Feedback & Discussion

    I’d love to hear your thoughts on this approach. Do you see pitfalls? What features would be most helpful for you? How do you currently handle tech debt refactoring?

    Thanks for any feedback you can provide!

30. Show HN: P*Nis Guesser – Obtaining BDE Consensus

Show HN: P*Nis Guesser – Obtaining BDE Consensus - Project Screenshot

URL: https://penis-guesser.onrender.com/

Author: gabriel666smith

Description: Hi HN!

The actual length and girth of famous people's erect penises isn't something we encounter very often in daily life.

This leads me to posit that there exists a hypothetical, imaginary set of measurements for all penis-owners in our collective imagination - measurements that bear no relation to reality.

Some use terms like 'Big Dick Energy' to express the hypothetical dimensionality of all these Schrödinger's Cocks that fill (or do not fill) our universe.

While these attempts to speculate about things that are none of our business are noble, they're ultimately vague, abstract, and ungrounded.

This presents a genuine problem: as a society, we are doing something funny (imagining penises) but not grounding that in real, earned, democratic consensus.

I introduce to you the solution: Penis Guesser - an attempt to obtain the collective imaginary consensus on the imaginary dimensions of famous people's penises.

How it works:

Users are presented with a series of penis owners and asked to guess each penis's length and width.

After guessing, users see the current average length and girth consensus.

After 10 guesses, users can access the leaderboard, sorted by length.

No actual penises are visible at any point - they remain entirely imaginary.

Some notes:

1 - This is a joke - definitely in bad taste, possibly funny, maybe illegal? YMMV! :-)

1.5 - The internet definitely used to be funnier! That was the inspiration - websites that were really stupid, like this. I admire when people put lots of effort into utterly pointless things.

2 - I've never made a website before; this is 'vibe-coded'. It's fun! I enjoyed making it. It's cool that a totally non-technical person can do this in an evening now. My job is writing books, not making websites, and I'm excited to find out all the mistakes I've made.

3 - I have bought penis-guesser.com but it seems like the internet takes a couple of days to understand that.

4 - As a non-coder, I love HN! I learn so much cool stuff on it. Thank you for it :-)

Show HN: Stoic AI – AI-powered Stoic coach for breakup recovery - Project Screenshot

URL: https://stoic-ai-coach.vercel.app/

Author: brad_fox

Description: Breakups are tough. I've been there. After trying everything - journaling, venting to friends, watching self-help videos - I found that reading Stoic philosophy helped me more than anything. But applying Stoicism in real life is hard.

So, I started prompting AI (ChatGPT) with Stoic principles to see how it would respond. The results were surprisingly helpful. AI wasn't emotional, it didn't judge - it just reflected back logical Stoic perspectives, helping me process things rationally.

That's when I realized: AI could be a Stoic coach for emotional resilience. So, I'm building Stoic AI Coach - an AI-powered Stoic companion for breakup recovery and self-improvement. It will provide:

Stoic-based AI conversations

Daily emotional resilience exercises

Personalized breakup recovery guidance

Exclusive premium features for early users

Right now, it's just a waitlist, but I'd love feedback on the idea. Would you use something like this? What features would be useful?

35. Show HN: I got my first 10 users for a job matching tool

Show HN: I got my first 10 users for a job matching tool - Project Screenshot

URL: https://yourjobfinder.website

Author: taha__amh

Description: The idea came from watching my girlfriend's frustrating job search experience. As a developer, I built a tool to match job seekers with positions that actually align with their skills and aspirations. Here's how I reached my first 10 users:

Week 1-2:

    Started with my girlfriend as user #1
    She found relevant matches within days (compared to weeks of manual searching)
    This validated the basic concept
Week 3:

    Showed it to 3 college friends who had just graduated
    They were immediately interested because they were actively job hunting
    Got detailed feedback on UX and missing features they wanted
Week 4:

    Implemented their suggested features (if the job is remote or not)
    Original users shared it in their college WhatsApp groups
    4 more graduates joined and started using it daily
Week 5:

    Word spread through the initial users
    2 more users joined from different universities
    Reached 10 active users milestone
Key learnings from first 10 users:

    Real problems = motivated users
    Recent graduates are great early adopters
    Word of mouth works when the product solves a real pain point
    Quick implementation of user feedback creates loyal users
All 10 users are still active after 3 weeks, using the platform 2-3 times per week on average.

Looking for HN feedback on:

    Scaling beyond word-of-mouth
    Features you'd expect in a job matching tool

36. Show HN: Google Drive Video Editor

Show HN: Google Drive Video Editor - Project Screenshot

URL: https://driveeditor.com

Author: kupcs

Description: Hey HN,

A while ago, I built a simple tool for my team of content clippers. They needed a way to quickly edit videos stored on Drive. Downloading, editing, and re-uploading was a pain, so I built a Chrome extension that lets them edit videos directly inside gDrive. As I’m paying my VAs hourly this saves us a good amount of money every month.

Under the hood the extension uses webcodecs and wasm for processing. Right now, it works best with MP4 files. Some MOV files don’t process correctly, which has been a challenge, but I’m working on improving that. You can also copy and paste editing presets across multiple videos to speed things up when repurposing content.

Would love to hear your thoughts or ideas on how to improve this tool. Try it out here: https://driveeditor.com and please let me know what you think. Thank you!

Show HN: I made a dead-simple way to share and track file views - Project Screenshot

URL: https://sendfast.app

Author: lukeluc

Description: I built SendFast because I wanted a frictionless way to share files and know when they're opened—without requiring logins, ads, or clunky long urls.

How it works:

Upload a file → Get a shareable link

Send it → No signups needed

Get notified → See when it’s viewed in real time

Next up: "Family accounts"—share storage with others.

I’d love feedback from all of you! What would make this more useful for you?

Show HN: H5tui – a terminal user interface for HDF5 files - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/kszenes/h5tui

Author: kszenes

Description: Working with HDF5 files can be cumbersome, so I built an HDF5 TUI file explorer to streamline the process. Unlike other projects, it runs directly in the terminal and provides functionality for:

- quickly navigating the contents (using Vim keybindings or arrow keys)

- viewing datasets

- plotting 1D and 2D datasets straight in the terminal

- computing simple dataset statistics (e.g., max, min, mean)

You can try it out by installing it with pip. Let me know if it is missing any features that you would like.

42. Show HN: I built an AI accountability buddy to guilt-trip procrastinators

Show HN: I built an AI accountability buddy to guilt-trip procrastinators - Project Screenshot

URL: https://unslacker.com/

Author: yamaik222

Description: So, I've had this idea for a while now, an accountability buddy that calls you out if you make excuses and implements guilt so you can feel bad just like with a human accountability partner because when I looked at similar ideas everyone is saying that they don't stay accountable because it's not a real person.

I'm still validating the idea, do people need something like this? I think so

I've seen so many apps to track your goals and break bad habits, etc, but nothing ever really worked for me long term. So I started to build a landing page for Unslacker and finished it last night, I think it looks clean:

https://unslacker.com/

I really need some feedback as much as possible and if you are interested, feel free to join the waitlist.

47. Show HN: Multi-Language Manga Reader

Show HN: Multi-Language Manga Reader - Project Screenshot

URL: https://aligned.pictures/

Author: szvgabor

Description: A webapp that lets you read manga/comics and switch languages at any time easily.

Growing up learning English as a second language, watching Family Guy (and later other shows) has helped me improve a lot. Now learning Japanese, I tried to replicate the same but had to realize that I'm not at the right level yet. I still had to pause and look up words too many times for it to work well, so I moved to reading manga. In cases where I am still unable to understand after looking up every word and researching grammar, I check the same speech bubble in the official translation. Even if the translation sometimes takes some liberties, it helps me understand the general intent and allows me to move on.

I've built this app, so that I don't have to manually keep two manga readers (the original and translation) in sync. You can load two versions of the same manga and it will synchronise them, so you can switch the language with a click of a button. I use an image registration algorithm from OpenCV to match and adjust the images of pages, in order to be able to switch languages without jitter.

It is done entirely in the front-end, so I more or less don't have to worry about infrastructure. Because of this, it can also be used offline once the webapp has loaded, which was an important feature for me.

It still has many rough edges that I would love to polish, but for now, it works well enough for me and I'm the only one using it as far as I know. Still, it would be awesome if this helped people with similar needs.

51. Show HN: Open-Source Ratio Chart for Markets That Don't Exist on Exchanges

Show HN: Open-Source Ratio Chart for Markets That Don't Exist on Exchanges - Project Screenshot

URL: https://neogas.eluvade.com

Author: eluvade

Description: Hey HN!

I built this because I wanted to track the relationship between two assets—but no exchange or TradingView chart existed for it. I needed a way to visualize this ratio historically and in real time, so I made a simple, open-source ratio tracker using WebSockets and TradingView Lightweight Charts.

What It Does:

Continuously tracks a custom price ratio in real-time Uses WebSockets (Binance API) for live market updates Displays historical trends with TradingView Lightweight Charts Works on mobile & desktop (PWA-ready, no backend) Live demo: https://neogas.eluvade.com GitHub repo: https://github.com/Eluvade/neogas

I figured others might have custom market relationships they want to track, so it’s fully open-source. You can modify it, add new pairs, or even integrate alerts.

Would love feedback—how else would you use a custom ratio tracker like this?

52. Show HN: Subscription Billing and Payments for AI

Show HN: Subscription Billing and Payments for AI - Project Screenshot

URL: https://stykite.com/

Author: vibhanshukarn

Description: Hey HN,

We built Stykite, a billing and payments platform designed specifically for AI companies. It was a manifestation of a problem that I personally faced 6 years ago and even today, setting it up takes weeks/months and various API integration. Even when 99% on SaaS onboarding and billing experience is largely the same (fixed price, seat price or even usage-based). So we asked ourselves a question, can there be something that can let SaaS/AI businesses go live in 10 mins. We're not there yet, but hopefully on the path.

Note:

  • Our documentaion is half broken. (WIP)
  • We did a UX revamp this month, but still needs some work I guess.

    Would LOVE any feedback and questions specifically around our "product architecture" which is different from legacy systems out there.
