URL: https://github.com/EnhancedJax/Bagels

Author: EnhancedJax

Description: Hi! I'm Jax and I've been building this cool little terminal app for myself to track my expenses and budgets!

Other than challenging myself to learn Python, I built this mainly around the habit of budget tracking at the end of the day. (I tried tracking on-the-go, but the balance was always out of sync.) All data is stored in a single sqlite file, so you can export and process them all you want!

The app is built using the textual API for Python! Awesome framework which feels like I'm doing webdev haha.

You can check out some screenshots on gh: https://github.com/EnhancedJax/Bagels

3. Show HN: Orange intelligence, an open source alternative to Apple Intelligence

Show HN: Orange intelligence, an open source alternative to Apple Intelligence - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/sharingan-no-kakashi/orange-intelligence

Author: MexicanYoda

Description: Hi HN! I’m excited to share Orange Intelligence, an open-source alternative to Apple Intelligence for macOS.

Orange Intelligence allows you to interact with any text on your macOS system in a more powerful and customizable way. It brings a floating text processor that integrates seamlessly with your workflow. Whether you’re a developer, writer, or productivity enthusiast, this tool can boost your efficiency. Key Features:

Floating Text Processor: Trigger a floating window by double-tapping the Option key to process selected text.
Run Any Python Function: From basic text manipulations to running large language models (LLM) like OpenAI or local LLaMA, you can execute any Python function on the fly.
Full Customization: Want to add your own functions or logic? Just write them in Python, and they’ll appear in the floating window.
How does it work?

Capture: Uses AppleScript to simulate a global Cmd+C and capture selected text from any active macOS app.
Process: A floating window pops up, letting you choose what to do with the text (run a function, format it, or apply an LLM).
Replace: After processing, the app returns focus to the original application and pastes the processed text back with a global Cmd+V.
Why open source?

I built this to overcome the limitations of Apple’s proprietary tools, and I wanted to make it fully customizable and extendable. Orange Intelligence is built with Python and PyQt6, so it’s easy to adapt, extend, and contribute to.

It’s not just a text processor—it’s a platform for building custom workflows, whether you want to automate simple tasks or integrate with complex AI systems.

If you’re on macOS and you’re interested in boosting your productivity with Python and AI, I’d love for you to try it out and give feedback: https://github.com/sharingan-no-kakashi/orange-intelligence.

I’m looking forward to your thoughts, ideas, and contributions. Thanks!

4. Show HN: SimpleSearch – Just a list of search bars

Show HN: SimpleSearch – Just a list of search bars - Project Screenshot

URL: https://simplesearch.info/

Author: wwickey

Description: I made this site for myself, SimpleSearch.info, as new default browser page. I’m not sure if it actually saves time or clicks (though, for me, it saves at least one click per search), but I find the search experience more pleasant. On desktop, it’s nice to just have these search bars as the first thing that pops up in a new window or tab vs clicking bookmarks in the toolbar or elsewhere then searching. Similarly, on mobile, I like just clicking on one icon for all my searches. The vast majority of my web browsing begins with a search or LLM query.

I’m curious if this is helpful to anyone else and if there are any additional features I might add to make it more useful. Thanks!

5. Show HN: I made an open-source video editor

Show HN: I made an open-source video editor - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/cartesiancs/nugget-app

Author: hyeongjun

Description: It's an open source video editor designed for motion effects and versatility. developed with electronjs / TypeScript, FFmpeg, Litjs.

I'm currently focusing on making it easier to edit long-form videos. Specifically, adding subtitles to podcast episodes or creating short-form content from YouTube videos.

And I’m also developing several extensible utilities. For example, recording video with a floating webcam—similar to Loom—or using LLMs to make cut editing easier. To make all this possible, I believe the first step is to build a versatile, general-purpose video editor.

Description: Hi everyone!

I'm excited to share a web-based Pokémon journey game I've developed. It's a turn-based game that reminds me of the ones I played in my childhood. The gameplay is straightforward, featuring battle images and combat logs.

This little project fulfills one of my childhood dreams from watching Pokémon anime: collecting various Pokémon through battles. As someone who grew up watching the series, it's particularly meaningful to me.

This is my first attempt at developing a web game, and I would really appreciate your support and feedback! The game may be simple, but it's made with passion and nostalgia.

11. Show HN: A simple dictionary and vocab builder (Rust, Svelte, Tauri)

URL: #

Author: L_i_m_n

Description: I love learning new words. However, I tend to forget them.

When I find a new word, I’ll look up its definition and then save it to wherever is most convenient (Obsidian, my notes app, or I just keep the tab open in Safari). Collating these sources is a nightmare. I’ve tried various flashcard tools, but none are free, easy to use, available on mobile, and support spaced repetition.

deft is the simplest app I could make to meet these goals:

  * Built-in dictionary

  • Spaced repetition

  • Completely offline

The dictionary uses wiktionary.org. The spaced repetition algorithm is fsrs, which is similar to Anki.

16. Show HN: New Social Music Sharing and Discovery App

URL: #

Author: Solance

Description: I've recently released the beta version of my app, Solance, to the App Store and Google Play Store. The app is aimed at people who want to share and discover new music to add to their playlists, however, it's a bit different as this app isn't based off algorithms finding music for you, it's based on see what your friends listen to. Within the app you will have your main Solance feed (similar to Instagram) where songs from your friends will appear in a post-like format which includes 4 songs at a time. In this feed you can listen to previews of the songs, interact with others by liking and/or commenting on the songs, and also saving the song directly to your Spotify.

You will also get a Solance profile showing the music you recently listened to and your top artists. You can search for users to see who would have a music taste that you would like to see more of.

The app is in beta at the moment and purely has core functionality only as we are just trying to get feedback to see what features to move forward with. It would be awesome if you guys could download and give the app a try and leave some feedback! The website is https://solance.app.

If you need some Solance usernames to start off and get a feel for the app before inviting any friends, feel free to add users dan & ryan :)

Author: cyberflux

Description: Hi HN

As a security/cloud architect, I'm constantly handed new projects for review with tight deadlines. Reviewing thousands of lines of code in a short time is a huge pain. To solve this, I built Guide Gecko, a macOS app that uses Gemini to let you query your entire codebase.

It connects to GitHub, uses your Gemini API key, and allows you to ask broad architecture questions, perform security reviews, identify potential improvements, and quickly understand any repo. You can also scope prompts to specific folders.

I&#x27;ve been using this daily and found it incredibly helpful. I&#x27;d love to get feedback from the HN community.</code></pre>

Show HN: Quickly submit links to HN from any app on your Android device - Project Screenshot

URL: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.lorendb.sendhn&hl=en_US

Author: LorenDB

Description: I enjoy submitting interesting articles to HN when I run across them; however, I've found the submission process to be a bit tedious at times. To combat that, I've been using a browser extension[0] that will quickly send the link and title to HN. Unfortunately, most Android browsers don't support extensions, so submitting links to HN has required me to copy-paste the URL, manually select the page title, and then paste that into HN as well. To combat this, I've created a small tool that I call Send HN. It leverages the system share APIs so that you can click the share button in your browser, feed reader, social media app, or really anything, and have what you're looking at sent directly to HN. The app even queries the URL to extract and prefill the page title!

This app is a little different than most apps you've used. Since my goal was to make sharing links to HN as dead-easy as possible, there is literally no UI in the app. When you install it, it won't show up in your app drawer; you'll only see it as a share target. I may add a barebones UI in the future, but for now it has none.

Disclaimer: I actually know practically nothing about dedicated Android app development, so I used Llama 3.3 70B to write pretty much all the code. It's actually quite satisfying for a small project like this to use an LLM to write and refine the code.

The app is GPLv3 and available on GitHub: https://github.com/LorenDB/SendHN

Show HN: A simple and local project management tool made 100% by Claude - Project Screenshot

URL: https://cgarduno1garduno.github.io/SPOT/

Author: ccccrrriis

Description: Hi HN, I'll do my best to share this since I've never shared anything before on HN.

tldr: I used LLMs to create a project management tool to fit my exact needs by word-vomiting what I wanted into ChatGPT 4o and telling it to format a prompt that I could enter into Cursor's Composer (Claude-3.5-sonnet).

The linked page is a demo, and I'll be running it locally to actually use it.

I'm a product researcher in the sports industry, and while I have a technical background in science, my programming skills are very minimal and I've mainly used these basic skills for things like data wrangling and visualization.

I've been looking for a project management tool that I can use personally and professionally (I don't like the one at work), but I wanted it to be minimal and free to use. After searching and testing various tools I decided, jokingly at first, to have an LLM build the entire thing for me...and it built exactly what I wanted (definitely needed a bit of back and forth to refine things).

This post isn't to highlight the project itself, but to highlight how much LLMs can impact individuals like myself with some technical background, but limited coding abilities. I've had a lot of success using LLMs at work to help me understand code, port things over from matlab to python, and build functional tools that optimize my team's workflow. I'm blown away with how much these tools have helped me in the last year with building simple tools and automating mundane tasks, and I thought it might be interesting to share this as an example of how they've helped.

Show HN: AI-powered tool that breaks down complex topics into bite-sized outline - Project Screenshot

URL: https://app.tivateonline.com/studyguide/

Author: samuelaidoo45

Description: Hey everyone! I’m excited to share my side project, StudyGuide, which uses AI to simplify just about any topic you can think of. If you’ve ever struggled with breaking down huge chapters or complicated subjects, this tool might help. What it does: You type in a topic (say, “Quantum Mechanics” or “French Revolution”). The AI then generates a detailed outline, broken down into smaller, easier-to-digest subtopics. You can click into each subtopic to go deeper, eventually drilling down to specific sub-subtopics or key concepts. Why I built it: I’ve always found that half the battle in learning is figuring out where to start and how to structure my study notes. I wanted a simple interface: type a topic, get a structured breakdown, and explore further as needed. If you want to try it out, here’s the link: https://app.tivateonline.com/studyguide/ Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments – I really appreciate any feedback or suggestions for improvement!

FixProxy is it's own project with a different usage. It is also practical to use (unlike FixBrowser in it's current form), I've been using it for multiple years with good results.

Since the last post I've been working on various improvements that are incorporated in the linked blog post. But you can also read about them in more detail in this blog post: https://www.fixbrowser.org/blog/fixbrowser-0.2

Show HN: Peace: Zero Stress Automation - Project Screenshot

URL: https://peace.mk/blog/checkpoint/

Author: azriel91

Description: Heya HN,

I've been working on this framework because it's always too easy to do dangerous things with the deployment tools I've worked with, and I tend to feel guilty when "I tried to fix things, but it replaced the server instead of renamed the existing one", or "there's so much information that I read none of it".

The framework handles the aesthetics and provides nice stuff that would never get prioritized at work, so that the next time we have to build a tool, the user experience is more advanced than "text, text everywhere".

The project scope just kept growing, so here's my write up and some demo clips of where I got to.

If nothing else, am sure you'll enjoy the concept.

37. Show HN: TickerPulseBot – Agentic crypto analysis bot for Telegram

Show HN: TickerPulseBot – Agentic crypto analysis bot for Telegram - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/baturyilmaz/TickerPulseBot

Author: arbayi

Description: Hi! I have been playing with agentic frameworks for a while now and last week I saw OpenServ as they were launching their 'devnet'. I signed up and got access to try the platform. I think they implemented it really well and their SDK is written in ts :) that was a plus.

The idea is that you create a project and define your goal; you select agents and the rest is managed by their System Manager agent. There are already built-in agents, but you can create your own simply through their UI or SDK. I first tried the platform by building a basic image generator agent using FLUX.1-schnell: https://github.com/baturyilmaz/FLUX.1-schnell-Imagine

A few days ago they released 3 bounty tasks and one of them was this telegram bot idea. I've played with it and created a first version that I'm happy with. I first needed to create a team for the project. I chose some agents from the platform and implemented new ones for this projects' specific needs:

1. JSON Parser Agent

2. Telegram Sender Agent (the repository)

3. Perplexity Research Assistant Agent (The best member, fast and up-to-date)

4. DEX Screener Agent

5. Twitter API Agent

6. Copywriter Agent

7. Project Manager Agent

When a new ticker is mentioned on Telegram, the Telegram Sender defines tasks for the team. DEX Screener Agent first goes and collects up-to-date data for the token using DEX Screener API, then saves the results in a JSON file. Then JSON Parser Agent goes and finds the official Twitter account for the token and passes it to Twitter API Agent. Twitter API Agent finds the account information and latest tweets and saves the result in a JSON file. While Twitter API Agent is doing its task, Perplexity Research Assistant agent concurrently searches the web and gets the latest news and information about the token and saves the results in a JSON file. At the end, Copywriter takes all these findings and generates a detailed report in a txt file. Then the Telegram Sender takes the report, formats it and sends it to Telegram.

I implemented this workflow using their SDK and I monitor the agents' activities directly on the platform. You can view the code on GitHub. It still needs improvements, and I will continue working on it.

You can then save the results as a flashcard. When you open study mode, you get language learning exercises generated by ChatGPT.

It’s not fully fleshed out yet, but the basics are there. I really like the idea of learning languages using content that’s relevant to you, as opposed to the standard text book contents.

That being said, the extension is not for complete beginners. I think you should at least know the basics of the language that you’re learning, to really benefit from it.

Releasing bug fixes unfortunately isn’t straightforward, because each release has to go through Google’s review process again, which seems to take a couple of days each time. So here are some caveats:

- Only works with videos that have CC/subtitles available

- If the transcript container doesn’t show up, try reloading the page. Theater mode will make the container move down, so I recommend the normal, non-widescreen view

- In the extension popup, you have to scroll down to see the “Study Cards” button, as it gets moved down by the previews of the cards

- Videos that have embedding disabled don’t show up in study mode

- As usual, responses from ChatGPT can be wrong

Happy to hear what you think and how it works for your language pair!

41. Show HN: S3 and CloudFront hosting toolkit for front-end web apps

Show HN: S3 and CloudFront hosting toolkit for front-end web apps - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/thunder-so/cdk-spa

Author: saddamazad

Description: I wrote a library that helps you set up:

- An S3 bucket to host your SPA/SSG app.

- A CloudFront distribution configured for optimal caching and security.

- GitHub integration for automatic deployment via CodePipeline and CodeBuild.

- Redirects and rewrites using CloudFront Functions.

- Custom domain setup with SSL certificates and Route53 DNS records.

It's designed to make deploying front-end applications to AWS as straightforward as possible, using infrastructure-as-code with TypeScript.

As a front-end developer working with AWS, I found the process of setting up infrastructure for SPAs to be repetitive and time-consuming.

While AWS offers powerful tools like Amplify, configuring them correctly for best practices requires boilerplate code and careful attention to detail. CDK-SPA aims to streamline this process, allowing developers to focus on building their applications rather than managing infrastructure.

If you just need a React/Vue SPA deployed securely in 10 minutes, check out the repository.

42. Show HN: Manage Code Snippets Fast

Show HN: Manage Code Snippets Fast - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/sysid/rsnip

Author: sysid

Description: We’ve all been there: searching for that one code snippet we know we used before. While tools like ChatGPT are amazing for new ideas, for repeated tasks, they’re slow and unreliable. Shell history is fast but limited. What I would like to have:

- Fuzzy Search: very-fast snippet lookup with an fzf-style interface.

- Dynamic Templating: Jinja2-style syntax.

- Deep Shell Integration: tab-completion

Why Rust? Because some of the fastest libraries in existence can be deployed.

If this sounds like it might also help your workflow give it a try:

cargo install rsnip

I'd appreciate your feedback!

URL: https://github.com/ivpel/vigilant-scanner

Author: ivpel

Description: Hi everyone!

I want to introduce you to a tool I've been working on recently – Vigilant Scanner.

It’s a lightweight and user-friendly CLI tool for file integrity monitoring and log analysis (this part is in development yet, more info in repo docs), designed to help detect changes and spot malicious activity in your system. I though it will be good for small teams or individuals managing their own servers.

P.S. It was inspired by AIDE, but I wanted something more human friendly, with better UX and easier to support + extend.

Would love your feedback and ideas on how to make it better!
