Description: Social media platforms are relentlessly optimizing their recommendation algorithms for engagement - and by extension, profit. While these algorithms excel at surfacing relevant content, they've also become incredibly effective at exploiting our cognitive vulnerabilities. What started as "let me check one video" now routinely turns into hours of doomscrolling. The algorithms have gotten too good at their job.
Apple's original screen time control is too simple - it allows +15 minutes infinitely and doesn't help much, at least for me. I tried several third-party screen time control apps, and some are quite good. As a programmer learning iOS development, I wanted to build something slightly different - yet another screen time control app that suits best to my personal needs. That's how ScreenBreak was born, with its focus challenges and more fine-grained analytics.
ScreenBreak introduces "focus challenges" - mini-games you must complete to access blocked apps. Want to check Instagram? Draw a perfect circle first. Need TikTok? Tap the screen 200 times in 60 seconds. After 5 minutes of usage, the app gets locked again, requiring another challenge to continue. These challenges are designed to be just annoying enough to break the dopamine loop, but engaging enough that users don't immediately uninstall the app. I'm actively building new challenges and exploring different ways to help people preserve their sanity while exploring social media content. The goal isn't to completely block these platforms - they're valuable tools for information and connection - but to help users engage with them more mindfully.
Beyond challenges, ScreenBreak provides detailed analytics to help users understand their digital habits. You can track your app usage patterns across different times of day, compare week-over-week trends, and see which apps consume most of your screen time. These insights often reveal surprising patterns - maybe you spend more time on TikTok during work hours than you realized, or perhaps your late-night Instagram sessions are longer than you thought. Understanding these patterns is the first step to changing them.
As the sole heavy user testing this app, I've seen my own TikTok screen time significantly decrease while still staying updated with news and trends that matter to me.

But, I still suffer very badly from anxiety and depression (it runs deep in the family. Most of my childhood was in phyc wards with my mum).
I'm an alcoholic and a somewhat drug user, which is how I cope, along with SSRIs.
However, I have made an effort to document my highs with free-style Photoshop. It's cathartic and even when I'm sober I appreciate it, a lot. Like it was from a different person.
I am very naive about this, but is my art anything special, or is it run-of-the-mill garbage?
I'm not an artist, have no links to that world, nor am I schooled in it, so would love any feedback from anyone who is.

- Sampler: Adjust settings like temperature or penalties, letting you control tone and style for each character or scenario.
- Real-Time Streaming: Generate dialogue word-by-word for a natural, immersive feel.
What’s Next?
One of the things we’re most excited about is exploring is LLM-driven game logic. Imagine an NPC who, when asked to open a locked door, triggers an in-game event—or a player influencing the environment just by talking to a character. We want to connect what characters say with what they can do in the game.
We’re also tackling:
- Context Shifting: Ensuring conversations flow naturally, even over long or complex interactions.
- Memory Books: A structured way to store important narrative events, player choices, or character relationships, so NPCs can “remember” and refer to past interactions.
- Contextual knowledge about the game state: Using vector databases to store and retrieve information about the game world and player actions.

Equal parts excited and nervous to release what I've been working on solo. Rezible is a "mission control" platform for oncall teams, aiming to automate, support, and report on all the overlooked, less glamorous aspects of being oncall.
While working as an SRE in different teams across Google & Canva, I saw firsthand the impact an unhealthy oncall rotation can have on engineers as individuals and as teams.
I believe oncall is a huge missed opportunity for many teams - it is often viewed as a necessary evil rather than as a source of growth & learning. This is not surprising considering the continuous administrative burden involved in keeping a rotation healthy: without care they will degrade.
So while all dysfunctional rotations are somewhat unique, there are common practices that healthy ones share - these are what I am trying to build as features in Rezible to provide "healthy oncall on rails":
- Oncall shift event annotation (flag noisy alerts, measure toil)
- Automated shift handovers
- AI powered post-incident debriefs
- Real-time collaborative incident retrospectives
- Searchable & discoverable knowledgebase (populated from retrospective learnings & analysis)
- Structured oncall training & onboarding
The backend is in Go + Huma/OpenAPI, and the frontend is Svelte 5 + SvelteKit (which has been a pleasure to use despite not being a frontend engineer). It's still very rough around the edges, but I'm sharing now to avoid it never being "ready" :)

walledgarden.ai's P (data SIM card) - of the fabled MVP - seeks MF for PMF; the SIM (eSIM is on the roadmap, subject to demand) features:
SIM Isolation/RBI - restrict access from the SIM to Remote Browser Isolation services (e.g. Hyperbeam[0]), limiting the number of routes for data to leave the device/phone. This can also be expanded to cover other services - allow only Hyperbeam[0]+Beeper[1]+VoIP for RBI web browsing+messaging+calls, RethinkDNS[2] & Orbot[3], WireGuard, etc.
GeoAuth - IMEI, ICCID and/or Location attestation, that can be used for network control of SIM traffic (e.g. automatic blocking of banking and/or bitcoin app connectivity when outside, or inside, of your defined geofence(s)).
VPN (VN) - "clientless VPN" tunneling. Route traffic via WireGuard or Tailscale, without requiring a VPN client/Tailscale on the device.
Firewalls - opt to route your SIM's traffic through multiple vendors' Enterprise/"Next Generation"/<insert network-security-buzzword(s) here> Firewalls, to facilitate threat-intel-based blocking.
SOCKS/Tor - enable clientless/transparent proxying of TCP traffic via SOCKS or Tor.
Pcap - enable packet capture/visibility & analysis of all traffic sent via the SIM's data connection; trust but verify your device's/phone's OS and/or app connectivity (e.g. DNS traffic can leak outside the VPN tunnel on Android[4], iOS VPN leak[5], etc).
SocialsDetox[6] - network-based blocking of Social Media (+others).
It is a data-only SIM card, so no traditional voice/VoLTE connectivity (albeit VoIP will work), offering roaming connectivity in over 90 countries.
The signup process is currently high friction (CC+ACH/BACS/SEPA, shipping a physical SIM, etc), the data rates are not intended to be cost-competitive with existing "dumb" carriers, and such an offering will not appeal to everybody.
Quite simply the product is functional and I'm now seeking patient early adopters, prepared to wait for a SIM in the mail, who can see enough value in their use case(s) to vote with their wallets and signup. Hopefully those same early adopters will be willing and active participants in the walledgarden.ai community, to provide feedback and vote for new features/use cases (all suggestions are welcome).
PS: aTdHvAaNnKcSe for reading, it has been somewhat of a trial just to get this far with the product; oh the joys of (cellular networks|Machines|industry changes)!.
