15. Show HN: macOS menubar app for reply and mention monitoring on HN
Author: dnh44
Description: hello there,
I initially wrote this as a small thing for my own use but then decided to add a few features and to publish. Anyway it serves three main purposes.
- Get notified when someone replies to one of your stories or comments here
- Get notified when someone mentions something that your interested in; maybe your product or that of a competitor.
- Follow users here to get notified of their posts.
It also has a few other small features to make it nicer to use and I'm actively developing it. However it's not intended to be a replacement for this website, just a small helper.
Oh, I had to untick app store distribution to the EU for this due to a new EU rule that meant I would have to publish my address and phone number on the app store and I don't have a po box for this yet.
thanks for reading!

16. Show HN: Get blog post ideas for YOUR project for free
URL: #
Author: rasulkireev
Description: hello HN,
My name is Rasul and I would love to share my project with you.
TL;DR - SEO Blog Bot (https://seoblogbot.com/) helps you come up with Blog Post ideas for your project.
Before I do, I want to say that I (like many other people) dislike the tendency of using AI in a way that litters the web with content that doesn't matter.
Though, at the same time, it is hard to deny the helpfulness of AI when it comes to writing.
One of the problems that I run into is marketing my projects. More specifically, I want to grow most of my projects via SEO, but am having issues coming up with blog post ideas.
After reading Nicolas Cole's "The Art and Business of Online Writing" I got inspired and tried coming up with a prompt from the highlights I made in this book to generate some blog post ideas.
It worked beautifully! I immediately decided to make a web app that will help me and people like me to come up with relevant blog post ideas for projects they are working on.
Enter SEO Blog Bot - https://seoblogbot.com
This is an open source project (https://github.com/rasulkireev/seo-blog-bot/) that I plan to make super simple to self-host. It is not too easy right now. I decided to make it into a SaaS app (with a paid plan), but still tried to create a generous free plan.
I have also added an ability to generate the actual content from the ideas. Though it is not meant to
If you would be willing to give this project a try, I would be forever grateful to you if you could share some feedback, if any.
Thanks a ton in advance!

23. Show HN: Lume – An App That Knows You're Stressed Before You Do
URL: https://tranquiltech.io/lume
Author: mazenkurdi
Description: Hey HN,
I’m excited to share Lume, a stress management app I developed after noticing a personal trend: my resting heart rate (RHR) would rise during anxious phases, and adopting healthier habits like exercising and sleeping well helped me bring it back down.
What Lume does:
- Predict stress before you feel it: By analyzing patterns in your data, Lume notifies you when stress is likely rising, so you can take action early.
- Personalized guidance: Get tailored recommendations to adjust your habits and avoid burnout.
- Insightful analytics: Track your stress levels over time and identify triggers and trends.
Why I built it: Stress is a silent disruptor that can affect every part of your life. I wanted a tool that could help people take control before stress spirals out of hand, just like I did with my RHR.
I’d love your feedback on both the app and its concept. It’s live and ready for you to try: https://tranquiltech.io/lume?ref=hn

26. Show HN: Cut the crap – remove the AI bullshit from websites
URL: https://cut-the-crab.streamlit.app/
Author: muc-martin
Description: I’ve spent a lot of time reading articles that promise a lot but never give me what I’m looking for. They’re full of clickbait titles, scary claims, and pointless filler. It’s frustrating, and it’s a waste of my time.
So I made a tool. You give it a URL, and it tries to cut through all that noise. It gives you a shorter version of the content without all the nonsense. I built this because I’m tired of falling for the same tricks. I just want the facts, not a bunch of filler.
What do you think? I’m also thinking of making a Chrome extension that does something similar—like a reader mode, but one that actually removes the crap that gets in the way of real information. Feedback welcome.

28. Show HN: Browse HN's Favorite Reads of 2024 (Like NPR's Books We Love)
URL: #
Author: bwb
Description: Hi all,
I love what NPR does with its end-of-year "Books We Love" page (https://apps.npr.org/best-books), and I wanted to build that for the HN community (as I get amazing book recs here).
Step 1 = Vote for your 3 favorite reads of 2024
Vote here -> https://shepherd.com/bboy/my-3-fav-reads/join?referrer_id=32...
(the referral ID is how I track that your vote goes toward HN, as I also do this for subreddits)
Step 2 = Browse everyone's picks!
Then, see what books the HN community loved the most this year: https://shepherd.com/bboy/2024/hacker-news-community?referre...
You can break it down by published-in-2024 or by all-time.
And you can see all the picks by readers and break it down by genre here: https://shepherd.com/bboy/2024?referrer_id=329d2f
This was fun to build :).
The biggest challenge is the genre data publishers provide, they often mark fantasy books as science fiction.
If you have any problems, let me know (ben@shepherd.com).
Thanks, Ben

31. Show HN: Testzilla (BG S24) – Simplified Automated Testing for Voice AI Calls
URL: https://run.testzilla.ai/
Author: bgmd
Description: Hi, I'm Brian Gallagher, the creator of Testzilla.ai, and I created the automated testing tool I wanted to use, and hopefully you'll find it useful too.
I love Voice AI systems because I hate phone calls. Ironic, huh?
When designing Voice AI solutions, I quickly tired of the cycle of "Update system, test call flows, repeat" that went with it. The whole point of Voice AI for me was so that I could get off the phone, not spend even more time on it.
So I made some Voice AI agents to test my Voice AI system so I didn't have to.
It worked great, saved me tons of time testing and retesting systems, let me spend time designing systems instead of testing them, and let me spend more time in The Flow. Win.
I showed it to other developers who got excited and wanted to use with their systems. I heard this enough times that I decided to make it a platform I could share and easily use on multiple projects, have a simple UI, and let me run tests from my desktop or mobile with a click, and not spend 5-30 minutes of awkward time talking to phonebots in a crowded office. Win.
It also has the benefit of being a way to PROVE to clients that their AI system is working properly, answering questions the right way, NOT answering questions the right way, and that any advanced functionality (lookups, appointments, etc) works properly. Win.
I invite you to give Testzilla a spin and try it out. It's made my own dev life much easier, and I'm hoping it will make yours better, too. We've developed it with a focus on ease of use and simple design. We're still building out more elements (like the help pages) and features, but I wanted to get this out and have people using it and get real life feedback (there's a feedback button in the app you can use) before applying too much polish.
Try it: https://run.testzilla.ai ($20 in free credits to try it out, login required to prevent abuse, $0.50/min for tests)
Demo video (7 min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUaGQmBZSw8
Home Page w/pitch (for general public): https://testzilla.ai/
I'd love to hear feedback and suggestions on how we can make this even better.
Cheers,
Brian
PS: I had originally called this "Testbot", but we were told that we couldn't trademark that (too descriptive) so we rebranded as Testzilla (nods to the great Mozilla team and a famous reptile) so you may still see Testbot in emails or other places as we work through the rebranding details.

32. Show HN: I made personal YouTube SEO AI to save money
URL: https://www.tuberankerai.com/
Author: AwaisMehnga
Description: I was wondering how some YouTube SEO tools are fooling people that they are using AI to generate titles, tags and hashtags for their channel videos moreover they are paid and have only few free attempts. So, I decided to create actual SEO AI which is totally free and uses Gemini API. You can get free API from Google Gemini and use it for free.

33. Show HN: Mentionai.io – Mention many AI models in one message
Author: sontbv
Description: There are many services that let users access multiple AI models (GPT-4o, Claude, Grok, etc.), but with MentionAI, you can combine multiple types of models to get comprehensive output such as: @sdxl-lightning-4step generate an image of Japan in autumn and @claude-3-5-sonnet write a post about traveling to Japan in autumn for first-time travelers.
For the above query, it will generate the blog with image
You can also easily compare the responses of multiple models by mentioning them such as: @gpt-4o-mini @claude-3-haiku Explain large language model architecture.
We also support creating custom AI apps. In the near future, we would love to support mentioning multiple AI apps for brainstorming (creating multiple AI personas to discuss a topic like a group chat) or creating a simple workflow for each mentioned AI app responsible for each task (similar to the example of generating a blog post about Japan).
Let me know your thoughts about MentionAI's concept.

37. Show HN: PVBenchmark – Forecast and Benchmark PV Systems with Real-World Data
Author: muc-martin
Description: Hi HN,
I want to share PVBenchmark with you, a side project designed to help owners of photovoltaic systems forecast and benchmark their solar energy production.
Small plug-and-play solar systems, like those increasingly popular in Germany and around the world, allow homeowners and renters to install solar panels on balconies, rooftops, or backyards. These systems make renewable energy more accessible and help reduce electricity bills. However, understanding how well a system is performing or whether it’s optimized can be challenging.
PVBenchmark is here to address that challenge by offering:
Forecasting: Enter your location and details for multiple surfaces (orientation, tilt, and capacity) to get tailored solar production forecasts.
Benchmarking: Compare your actual energy production with real-world data from other users’ systems. By crowdsourcing production data, the platform builds a growing dataset that enables meaningful comparisons and insights. Over time, the plan is to expand benchmarks to include specific solar modules, inverters, and batteries, providing unbiased evaluation data beyond product marketing claims.
Though the project started with a focus on Germany, PVBenchmark now supports English and supports global production forecasts. As interest in small-scale solar systems grows in the U.S. and beyond, I hope this platform can become a valuable resource for homeowners, renters, and energy enthusiasts alike.
It’s an early version, and I’d love to hear your feedback. Thanks, and I look forward to your thoughts!
