10. Show HN: I made a Chrome extension to search in lengthy YouTube videos

URL: https://ytsearch.mkmushtaq.me/

Author: mushtaqyc

Description: I built a Chrome extension to search in lengthy YouTube videos and jump to the exact timestamp in the video to get my questions answered.

Backstory: I have learned a ton from YouTube, but after a few days, I wanted to go back and refer to some key details. I kept guessing the timestamp and sometimes never actually found it. So, I decided to build a Chrome extension to search in a YouTube video by just asking questions. I can get it answered and also click on the answer to jump to the exact timestamps.

I’m planning to improve this, so any suggestions and feedback would be valuable. It’s completely free, so feel free to check it out!

11. Show HN: A Terminal filesystem navigator

URL: https://github.com/willmcgugan/terminal-tree

Author: willm

Description: Hi HN.

This project is an experiment in terminal user interfaces.

It is a filesystem navigator, which could become a useful tool in its own right, or a widget that could be integrated in to a larger tool.

I wanted something that felt at home in a terminal session. So it had to use standard terminal themes. I also wanted it to be keyboard friendly and snappy - so no fancy visual effects.

I’m going to park this project for now. But I will revisit it at some point down the line when I have more idea what it should become.

I did have an idea that I could build a visual cd of sorts, which could be integrated in to a command line. So you could do something like:

cp foo.py vcd

Which would bring up the navigator to select a directory to be used as the destination for the copy. But I’m open to suggestions what could be built on top of this.

13. Show HN: Sapio – Learn and Grow with Interactive AI Simulated Conversations

URL: https://sapioai.net

Author: clirimfurriku

Description: I built Sapio to help people improve various skills through interactive conversations. Instead of passive learning, users engage in simulated chats where they actively apply their knowledge and receive immediate feedback on their responses.

The app currently offers 25 different practice modules and supports 10 languages. I built it because I noticed that many people struggle to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in conversations.

Tech stack: I built the front-end using Flutter, making the app available for both Android and iOS. The backend is powered by Django and PostgreSQL. For generating chats and feedback, I use the OpenAI API or Anthropic, whichever performed better during testing, based on the module and user’s language.

It’s still in early stages, and I’m actively working on improvements. I’d really appreciate any feedback from the HN community, especially on user experience and which scenarios/modules would be most valuable to add.

Thank you!

15. Show HN: Tool to Calculate Your Remaining Natural Cycles by Age and Location

URL: https://natural-lifecyles.vercel.app

Author: victor_bram

Description: Hi HN!

I was looking for a way to connect more with nature’s rhythms, so I put together a tool that calculates how many natural cycles – like seasons, full moons, and sunsets – you have left to experience, based on your age and location. The idea is to offer a unique perspective on time and life’s journey.

It only took me about 6 hours to build, using Next.js and hosted on Vercel. I wanted to keep it simple and intuitive, with a focus on a minimalist interface.

If you’re curious about how much of these natural moments you still have ahead, feel free to check it out here: https://natural-lifecyles.vercel.app

URL: https://lynx.boo

Author: TravisPeacock

Description: Do you remember the internet of the early 2000s? Neat single function websites that let you be creative and customize your spaces and weren’t setting out to be the next major conglomerate (or to be bought by them).

I’m building a series of websites that have simple concepts but too many of the players have tried to make their product so big. I also used to live in a very rural area so my goal is to make websites that load fast even on very slow internet. I’m starting with Lynx.boo.

A linktree style website that lets you fully customize your CSS (and adds a bunch of classes to your links to help style them easier as well as very non-restrictive CSS you can do html{display:none;} if you really want to) and the features aren’t locked behind yet-another monthly fee. I’ll be adding analytic support when I figure out the best way to do it.

Also there isn’t a user system (per se), you just confirm changes by email but you never register for the site and you won’t be spammed. Please feel free to try to break the CSS (or anything) as much as you want. I think it’s fairly robust but I would love any security vulnerabilities you see.

Thank you for your time!

20. Show HN: I built an app that turns long-form articles into LinkedIn posts

URL: https://paperus.tech/

Author: astropat

Description: Hey,

Ever felt Linkedin was overwhelmed with marketing and corpo posts everywhere?

That was me.

So I decided to post educational content on Linkedin with some AI assistance.

Problem: this takes a lot of time. Really.

And the existing post generators suck in science and engineering communication. They are tailored for marketers and for telling life stories, etc.

I needed something tailored for engineers and tech entrepreneurs.

I needed an app where we can ingest research papers, generating good drafts for compelling linkedin posts.

So…

I built it.

I have just a few users, and want to launch a public beta.

So here it is.

23. Show HN: OpenQuest, connect with people around a shared goal for a short time

URL: https://openquest.app

Author: subtlebits

Description: Hey everyone!

I built a little side project called OpenQuest over the last three weeks, and I’m looking for some feedback to see if it’s worth taking further.

The idea is simple: it’s a place to create a chat room where you can connect with people (a maximum of 8) who have the same goal as you, for a short time (7 days for now).

Think of it as a way to stay motivated, hold each other accountable, or simply work together with new people on something specific.

Some examples can be:

  - Following a programming course

  • Reading a book
  • Getting back to the gym
  • Cleaning up your home
  • Shopping for a mechanical keyboard
For example, here’s a room I created to get things going: https://openquest.app/rooms/6

Why did I build this?

Mostly as a response to what the internet feels like these days. Social media is to me an overwhelmingly negative time waster, where it feels like we’re uniting more around things we hate than common interests. And search engines are so SEO-optimized that it’s now almost impossible to find new and genuine things. Crowdsourcing research, even for something simple like shopping for a new graphics card, seems like it could be more enjoyable with a small group of people going through the same thing.

And if anyone is interested: the tech stack is Elixir + Phoenix + LiveView.

I’d love to hear what you think, whether it’s positive, negative, or somewhere in between. Any feedback is helpful, please don’t hold back.

Thanks for taking a look!

24. Show HN: X.infer-Framework agnostic computer vision inference

URL: https://github.com/dnth/x.infer

Author: dnth

Description: I spent the past 3 weeks building x.infer, a Python package that lets you run computer vision inference on a framework of choice.

It currently supports models from transformers, Ultralytics, Timm, vLLM and Ollama. Combined, this covers over 1000+ computer vision models. You can easily add your own model.

Repo - https://github.com/dnth/x.infer

Colab quickstart - https://colab.research.google.com/github/dnth/x.infer/blob/m

Why did I make this?

It’s mostly just for fun. I wanted to practice some design pattern principles I picked up from the past. The code is still messy though but it works.

Also, I enjoy playing around with new vision models, but not so much learning about the framework it’s written with.

I’m working on this during my free time. Contributions/feedback are more than welcome! Hope this also helps you (especially newcomers) to experiment and play around with new vision models.

25. Show HN: June.so for LLMs

URL: https://www.zond.dev

Author: camjw

Description: I’m building Zond, which is turnkey analytics for LLM product.

Lot’s of analytics products, in my opinion, focus on the testing/evals part of building an LLM product. What Zond does is try to tell you how people are using your product.

At the moment the way it works is like a middleware: you swap out your LLM endpoint, then Zond starts capturing your LLM interactions and gives you:

- Clustering: so what are the key types of interactions people are having,

- Frustration tracking: how often are people saying things like “No, that’s stupid” etc.

- Power user tracking: who’s asking really complicated questions or trying to push your product.

- Confidence tracking: how often does the LLM generate responses that have low confidence, as measured by logprobs (only for OpenAI at the moment)

- Conversation completion: how often are people giving up

- Normal analytics stuff! An integration with Hubspot/Attio is on the roadmap.

Looking for beta users so if anyone is interested please let me know!

27. Show HN: P2P file transfer using WebRTC

URL: https://taonexus.com/p2pfilesharing/p2pfilesharing

Author: logicallee

Description: It’s sometimes frustrating to send files among devices. Now you can send any file to any Chrome/FireFox/Safari client that wants to receive it:

https://taonexus.com/p2pfilesharing

Just share your ID, select a file and click send, and the receiving client will prompt to save it:

There is no signup of any kind. You just need a way to copy the peer ID such as by email or text message, so they know who they’re trying to get the file from.

This makes it much easier to transfer files among devices. I tested it on Windows and iPhone, it worked perfectly. It does not use the server, it is peer to peer.

34. Show HN: I made a website to share and discover well-designed products in tech

URL: https://flockly.co/

Author: naveen_

Description: Hi, I’m Naveen!

I recently launched Flockly — a community-driven platform to share and discover well-designed, quality tech products. Flockly was born from the need for a curated space to find truly exceptional tech creations, so I’ve made it easy to find quality mobile and web apps, hardware projects, and unique tech solutions.

What Flockly is not: Flockly focuses on polished, real products and excludes certain types of content, such as unreleased or “silly” projects, boilerplate code, directories, job boards, UI components, WordPress plugins, and anything related to web3, crypto, or Tailwind CSS.

This is my first indie project, and I’m excited to share it with the community. I’d love to hear your feedback—let me know what you think!

35. Show HN: Personalize your Hacker News frontpage

URL: https://hackernewsexplorer.com/

Author: mahin

Description: The HN frontpage can feature stories that aren’t that relevant to me, and some good ones don’t get enough traction on the new submissions page. So I thought of building something that personalizes the stories you see.

This is done by getting the 500 newest and top stories and comparing them against your likes, building your own personalized homepage.

Also, when I find something I like, I usually want to explore similar stuff. So I created embeddings for 500k historical stories (all above 20 points) and added a ‘similar’ button that shows you the closest stories.

I thought of making this a web app, but I wanted something that integrated as seamlessly as possible with HN, so I decided on a browser extension.

I would love your feedback!

39. Show HN: RasperDucky, an Implementation of DuckyScript3 for Raspberry Pico

URL: https://github.com/leogout/rasper-ducky

Author: leogout

Description: The past few weeks I’ve been working on an implementation of DuckyScript3 used for keystroke injections attacks. See [1] for the official RubberDucky USB key page.

My goal is to write a python interpreter to port as much commands as possible to run them on a RaspberryPi pico. It’s a fun side project that I’ve loved working on lately.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. As mentioned in the README of the project, I am in no way affiliated with Hack5, which is the creator of the original USB RubberDucky and the DuckyScript language.

Here is a link to another project on this topic, [2] which inspired me for doing this. At first I tried to contribute to this project but I got no answers from the owner and the way the code was written didn’t correspond to the way I would have done it, so it gave me the motivation to create my own.

I’ve learned lots and lots thanks to crafting interpreters [3], written by Bob Nystrom

URL: https://publicpolicy.substack.com/p/special-edition-frameworks-to-understand

Author: pramaanik

Description: This is our long list of public policy frameworks. Over four years of writing a news letter (publicpolicy.substack.com), we have compiled many frameworks that can help us analyse public policy issues.

We believe in the power of frameworks to zoom in on the most important aspects of complicated public policy issues. They are helpful in sense-making and should be thought of as a starting point to reflect on public policy issues rather than definitive solutions.

Some of these frameworks are our own creations, but most are credited to leading thinkers of public policy, politics, and philosophy.

For ease of reading, we’ve put these 80+ frameworks into a few categories. Click through on any of them and hopefully, you’ll discover a new frame to observe the world.

44. Show HN: World’s Largest Minigolf Directory

URL: https://www.minigolfr.com

Author: pseudometa

Description: Over the last two months I built a directory of minigolf businesses and it is now live. It has nearly 3000 businesses and in the United States and Canada, and I’ll be expanding it to other countries soon. The site includes a detailed view of each minigolf business, courses, and digital online scorecard.

The goal is to compile comprehensive course details including course designer, themes, difficulty scores, photos, videos, and more. To do this, I plan to work with businesses directly as well as crowd source details through the free minigolf scorecard capability. There are many advantages for players including statistics and note taking, as well as for business such as analytics, maintenance notifications, and more.

If you know of someone with a minigolf business, please have them check it out and verify if any information is incorrect. It is continuing to grow and expand daily.

A couple interesting notes is that the site is entirely developed using AI for all of its code. I also use it to select the best images to display for each business, and write the business overview that appears on each page. It is interesting that while AI isn’t core to this site, it plays a huge role in it’s development, and making it user-friendly as well as rapidly scaleable. It will be wild to see how much further it goes in a couple more months.
