6. Show HN: I built a tool that helps you with your productivity using AI

URL: https://www.daily-spiral.com/

Author: Borsoon

Description: Hey HN. A few months ago, I noticed that I had trouble with choosing the productive thing, over the pleasurable short thing.

So I built Daily Spiral, a simple tool that lets you log your completed activities (both positive and negative) and then scores your productivity on a scale from -10 to 10, based on the impact of each task.

I noticed that by forcing myself to type the unproductive activities and get rewarded for the positive ones, I felt really well and motivated.

It uses the Openai API with chatGPT to judge your tasks and reward you with points.

11. Show HN: Assetsrank – Rank and compare historical stock and crypto returns

URL: https://www.assetsrank.com/

Author: rohannn

Description: I made this website to rank and compare historical returns for stocks and cryptocurrencies. The list of assets tracked is just over 500 long and the data goes back approximately 9 years to 2016 (9 since its almost 2025). The chart shows the cumulative returns over the timeframe requested for the top 5 assets in the list while the datatable has information for every asset tracked. There’s also some basic filtering to play with and some text to read on the about page.

A lot of the frontend was made with the help of o1-preview. I’m sure theres a ton of bugs currently, but I used it for a while today for research and it went pretty well. I hope you find this tool useful!

12. Show HN: I made a tool that monetizes GitHub repositories

URL: https://repocharge.com

Author: underctrl

Description: Hey HN,

I just launched my very first SaaS! It’s a platform that allows creators and developers to monetize access to their private GitHub repositories without taking a cut of their revenue.

Why I made it: I make content on YouTube where sometimes I share source code through my Patreon, but the process of zipping up files and uploading them is pretty tedious. Worse, when I make changes I have to zip it up again and re-upload it. It’s even more annoying when people want to discuss the code, but they can’t on Patreon, so they have to share snippets through screenshots on Discord.

I hope this product helps some of you out there. I’d love to get some feedback from you all! Thanks :)

13. Show HN: Trailer for our realtime GenAI+unreal multiplayer game [video]

URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9No994RQgA8

Author: jaaron

Description: Hello! I’m Aaron, co-founder at Jam & Tea Studios. For the last year, we’ve been exploring if and how genai can create novel gameplay experiences. The first results of our experiments is Retail Mage. It features our own embodied agent NPCs (w/ dialog, planning, observation, memory) and our unique object interaction system in which players can say/type what they want to do and we’ll translate that into the 3D unreal simulation.

We’re running this on GPUs hosted in AWS (we’re part of the AWS GenAI Accelerator) where we manage the inference ourselves (for feature, cost and performance reasons).

Getting realtime inference to function, at even a modest scale, for a realtime 3D video game has been… fun. And definitely interesting. This game includes just a few of the AI features we’ve prototyped, so we’re excited to build more games with more advanced features soon.

Happy to answer any questions!

URL: https://hackernewsbookrecommendations.com/

Author: mjcurl

Description: After reading this Ask HN post [1] (and buying too many books), I found myself going through old posts about book recommendations. I wanted to find all books recommended in those posts and save the top ones for future book shopping sprees.

This has been done before [2, 3], but I wanted to get books that were recommended, not just mentioned.

I used the Algolia API [4] to get all Ask HN posts about books, reviewed them and filtered out ones that were too specific e.g best books to learn math. The comments were then sent to the Open AI API [5] to extract books that are recommended.

I then grouped them, but books can be mentioned with different names (Godel, Gödel, GEB?), and GPT4 wasn’t doing a good job finding similar titles in a long list (25k titles). So that part had to be done mostly manually.

Finally, I added a page to browse by posts, some stats (like users who recommended the most books), and highlighted mentioned books in the comments.

I hope you find a good book! Feedback is welcome :)

18. Show HN: Repaint – A visual editor for HTML and CSS

URL: https://www.repaint.com/home

Author: izakfr

Description: We’re Izak and Ben the founders of Repaint (YC S23). Repaint is an editor, like Figma, that natively exports code.

We launched Repaint on HN a little over a month ago. At that point, it was a website builder. There was a lot of feedback that Repaint should directly export code. We took this feedback and decided to change the editor.

We completely cut website hosting and decided to focus solely on code export. We’ve added templates for login forms and dashboards to help you get started.

The editor experience is similar to Figma. It is a WebGL canvas that has panning and zooming. The internal data-structure is a DOM, like HTML. The style attributes on each node map directly to CSS. Exporting the styles has no translation problems.

At Repaint, we spend a lot of time translating designs to code. We’re excited to build something that will help improve our own workflow.

We’re hoping to talk to anyone who has issues translating designs to code. If this is something that would help you, please to reach out to [email protected].

27. Show HN: What happens if you make a crossword out of Reddit r/gaming

URL: #

Author: zomh

Description: As a fan of dense New York Times-style crosswords, I challenged myself to create topic-specific puzzles. It turns out that generating crosswords and efficiently placing words is a non-trivial computational problem.

I started the project, “Joystick Jargon” combining traditional crossword elements with gaming-related vocabulary. Here’s the technical process behind it:

1. Data Source: Used a 3.8 Million Rows Reddit dataset from Hugging Face (https://huggingface.co/datasets/webis/tldr-17).

2. Data Filtering: Narrowed down to gaming-related subreddits (r/gaming, r/dota2, r/leagueoflegends).

3. Keyword Extraction: Employed ML techniques, specifically BERT-embeddings and cosine similarity, to extract keywords from the subreddits.

4. Data Preprocessing: Cleaned up data unsuitable for crossword puzzles.

5. Grid Generation: Implemented a heuristic crossword algorithm to create grids and place words efficiently.

6. Clue Generation: Utilized a Large Language Model to generate context-aware clues for the placed words.

The resulting system creates crossword puzzles that blend traditional elements with gaming terminology, achieving about a 50-50 mix.

This project is admittedly overengineered for its purpose, but it was an interesting exploration into natural language processing, optimization algorithms, and the intersection of traditional word games with modern gaming culture.

A note on content: Since the data source is Reddit, some mature language may appear in the puzzles. Manual filtering was minimal to preserve authenticity.

You can try the puzzles here: <https://capsloq.de/crosswords/joystick-jargon>

I’m curious about the HN community’s thoughts on this approach to puzzle generation? What other domains might benefit from similar computational techniques for content creation?

29. Show HN: Monitor Any List Page Without RSS Feeds

URL: https://www.weblist.ai/

Author: saran945

Description: Hi HN,

I wanted to share a tool I’ve been working on called WebList.

I’ve often found myself repeatedly checking certain websites for updates, also watching some keywords in few website… Many of these sites don’t offer RSS feeds, and setting up custom scrapers or alerts felt like a hassle.

WebList lets you monitor any webpage that displays a list of items. You just enter the URL of the page you want to track, and it automatically detects the main list on that page. Whenever new items are added, you’ll get an in-app notification.

I’m curious if others have faced the same issue and if this solution would be helpful ? I’d really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or questions you might have.

try it out.

34. Show HN: Desktop app displaying files on a 2D canvas

URL: https://limandoc.com/

Author: limandoc

Description: Hey all! I always wanted to arrange my text/markdown/pdf files on a 2D canvas and visualize them without opening all the windows. An extra feature I added is also visualizing folders within - so kind of a 3D visualization? It was also important to be an offline desktop app, rather than online tool like Miro or Mural, because once I edit files in Sublime or AdobePDF then I want changes to sync in the canvas right away.

Some technical points and lessons learned: being Android developer helped a lot with this project since I used Kotlin Multiplatform with Compose Desktop renderer (actually skiko). It runs on JVM under the hood, which was exciting at first since I can use the app on all of my Mac/Windows/Linux machines. Right? Wrong. One lesson I learned wasn’t “write once - run everywhere”, it was “write once - test everywhere; repeat”. On the other hand, using Kotlin Multiplatform will allow me easily to port to Android and port the logic to iOS.

Anyways, I released LimanDoc v1.0.3, still in Proof-Of-Concept, so I hope to get some feedback and features you think would be helpful.

I was thinking these features would be great for future releases:

Description: After immersing myself in Reflex and developing several web applications with the framework, I’ve combined my experience into a UI components library designed to complement Reflex’s capabilities. This project, born from hands-on learning, aims to enhance the developer experience for those working with Reflex.

Drawing inspiration from mature, well-established UI libraries like shadcn/ui, I’ve crafted a set of components that align with modern web design principles while leveraging Reflex’s unique features. The ability to seamlessly integrate both frontend and backend development using Python exclusively has been incredibly rewarding and productive.

By providing these tools, I hope to contribute to the Reflex ecosystem and help other developers streamline their workflow.

40. Show HN: Visualize Notion Pages in Whiteboard

URL: https://mindmap.so/

Author: aswin_kp

Description: I got the idea of [mindmap.so](http://mindmap.so/) out of my own frustration of managing my personal notes in Notion and Miro in parallel.

I have built it 3 months back on top of excalidraw, posted it in Reddit a couple of times, and never looked back (was using it only for personal use). Little did I know that the small and nimble tool that I created has crossed 2000+ users (was so surprised when I saw the dashboard last week). It was all organic and word of mouth .

Having 2000+ users trusting a product is no easy feat. That’s when I thought may be I should put some more effort in spreading the word across. Just launched it in PH and Notion Marketplace.

Let me know your feedback, please.

41. Show HN: Service to accept crypto payments with zero fee

URL: https://janedoe.fi/

Author: dmitrdv

Description: Hello Everyone,

I would like to introduce my project - JaneDoe Finance, a smart contracts based crypto payment gateway with zero fees and automatic token conversion. It allows businesses to quickly and easily accept crypto payments.

I am looking for people who can try and give me feedback. To try you need to register, but it is super easy and all features are free, just connect your web3 wallet and that’s it. Created account will already contain all the necessary settings and you will be able to accept payments, make payments and withdraw funds.

Some video tutorials:

- How make the payment with token exchanging - https://youtu.be/h4OzrS6Lm00?si=YJHNfUQx6hHchbwd

- How make the payment, monitor payments and withdraw fund - https://youtu.be/eBZ_XfLranA?si=4qZ4FYgSEiNlqY2F

So, what makes JaneDoe Finance different?

1) Zero fee. Crypto payment gateways compete with each other by the fee amount they charge per transaction. It varies from 2% (Cryptomus, BitPay) to 0.23% (CoinRemitter). I don’t see the point in lowering it further. All of my functionality is free. I would think about additional paid services related to withdrawing to fiat, token price volatility insurance, integration with DeFi, paid support and others.

2) Security. Almost all crypto payment gateways store merchant funds on custodial wallets, which they have full control over. Thus, their security is based on trust and the laws of the country in whose jurisdiction they operate. In my case, access to funds is 100% guaranteed because they are stored in smart contracts (ERC1155 standard). It is technically impossible to block or confiscate funds because there is no such code in my smart contracts. Merchants can withdraw their funds even by interacting with them directly, without the JaneDoe Finance website, programmatically or through a blockchain scanner such as Etherscan.

3) Wide coins support. 9275 coins, 161 Fiat Currencies and 420 Crypto Wallets. No comments :)

4) Automatic coin conversion. Imagine this scenario: a merchant want to accept payments in USDT, but client only has volatile ETH. In this case client can pay in ETH, the platform will automatically convert it to USDT at a favorable exchange rate, ensuring that the merchant receives the required amount in USDT. This way, clients can pay in the tokens they prefer and merchants receive payments in the tokens they need. To guarantee the best possible conversion rates, we’ve integrated with 107 exchangers.

5) Easy to use. To create a merchant account you only need your web3 wallet. After registration, it immediately contains all the necessary settings. And you will be able to accept and make payments, withdraw funds. Also, in the basic scenario, no integration is required, you can generate payment links completely on your side, without interacting with JaneDoe Finance.

Thank you for reading all the way to the end and your feedback.

CloudRunr maps usage to equivalent VMs or services across clouds, and calculates ‘closest-match’ pricing estimates across clouds, considering reservations and savings plans. It highlights gaps and caveats in services for the target cloud, such as flagging unavailable instance types in specific regions.

We have had interest from Cloud partners (and their pre-sales teams) who use it in their sales conversations.

Please share your feedback here! Thanks a ton.
