Description: Hi guys,
For my startup at www.mithrin.ai which is about create AI Chatbot Agents for websites, I wanted to create some free tools to attract traffic to the site and decided to create specialized chatbots powered by LLMs, similar to OpenAI’s Custom GPTs. I realized that by using gpt-4o-mini, I could create quite powerful alternatives to GPTs that are free to the public for a very small cost (given how cheap the model api cost is).
I’ve employed some throttling to prevent abuse and to avoid being charged too much. Then I integrated this with my main service and allowed users to use the credits they get when they signup, for extended use.
My goal is to create more powerful versions of GPTs. The idea is that since I have full control over the backend and the front end, I should be able to create more useful “GPTs”, especially when I allow the user to integrate with third party applications. Some examples of this:
1. GitHub Repo Quick Analyzer (https://www.mithrin.ai/experts/github-repo-quick-analyzer/): This allows users to connect public or their private Github repositories to an llm and get insights on it, and basically chat with it.
2. Research Insight Provider (https://www.mithrin.ai/experts/research-insight-provider/): This helps users to research topics using Pubmed, arXiv and Google Scholar.
I’ve only just begun with these two and there is a lot of room for improvement.
I currently have more than 1000 of these Experts. Most of them are quite basic, but, as stated above, I’d gradually make many of them more powerful.
Thoughts?

Description: Hi HN,
SmartRecaps is a free-to-read platform where you catch up on the news for any topic through bite-size recaps.
SmartRecaps began 8 months ago when I wanted a quick way to catch up on daily news across a variety of topics. I found single outlets too narrow, and using multiple outlets was too time-consuming. News aggregators, meanwhile, showed too many repeats and irrelevant articles.
I created SmartRecaps to solve these issues following 3 principles:
- Prioritise the most necessary articles first whilst filtering out the noise
- Optimise for speed with 1-minute recaps
- A feed based upon any topic you can think of
In the near future, I would like to:
- Improve the speed of query results
- Implement more features such as text-to-speech rendering
- Add multi-language accessibility
Would love to hear what you think!

Description: Built this work in progress website with some friends for our fantasy football competition. The interface is styled using React to look like the early 2000s Windows XP operating system. For the actual competition our UI/UX was different, and I’m not sure if this nostalgic design will be the most practical for our next competition. Ultimately the contest was really fun, we already had a winner paid out and contestants asking about future contests, so I’m exploring the best UI/UX that can be used moving forward.

Description: Hey HN,
I’m Ding Yu, a product manager/software engineer from Tokyo, and I’d like to share a side project I built: Shots Maker (https://shotsmaker.com/). It’s an app that lets you upload a photo of your garment, pick a model, and instantly generate a realistic image of the model wearing your product.
Why I built this: The idea came from a friend who’s a fashion designer. They were frustrated with the time and cost involved in traditional photoshoots. So I started building this tool after work as part of a “12 startups in 12 months” challenge.
How it works:
Challenges & Lessons:
What’s next:
If you’re curious: You can check out the website (https://shotsmaker.com/) or the demo video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMcie9yuuC8). Any feedback would be awesome, especially if you’re in the e-commerce space or have thoughts on AI-generated images.

Description: We’re thrilled to introduce CSCopilot - Your AI Customer Success Manager!
As a team, we’ve faced the pain of managing customer feedback and tracking requests across multiple channels. It’s overwhelming, and often, valuable insights get lost in the noise. Our AI Copilot helps you:
Extract valuable insights: Automatically gather customer feedback from various channels. Engage at the right moment: Identify key signals when a prospect is ready for engagement. Drive product improvements: Use customer voices to fuel meaningful changes and boost retention.
If you’re in the B2B space and looking to better understand and engage your customers, we built this for you. We’d love for you to check it out and let us know what you think!

Description: Hello HN! After I got a great response on my first game, I wanted to share the second game I ever made. It’s an infinite jumping game, but there are bombs to watch out for!
It can be played both on desktop and mobile. It can be installed as a PWA too.
If you enjoyed, please leave a star on the GitHub repository: https://github.com/shajidhasan/dotventure
Thanks for taking a look. Years ago, whenever I wanted to build games, I’d always stop because I felt I needed to create original game assets but could never get it done. After making this game, I’ve realized that you don’t need complex assets to make fun games - simple shapes can do the job just as well.

Description: I made this online planning poker tool after not being able to find a simple, free (or not ad-ridden), not buggy version elsewhere.
I wanted to explore using Go + HTMX to do a realtime app instead of the typical SPA + websocket approach and I was surprised at how easy it was in this simple use case A few features made this really nice to work with:
- Go channels to synchronize long-poll updates for clients of a room (nice that timeouts and request cancellations are also channels)
- Partial rendering of templates in Go + HTMX swapping out individual elements for really lightweight updates (<1KB compressed)
- Use (abuse?) browser caching mechanisms (Last-Modified + If-Modified-Since) to figure out if there was an update necessary (from the browser’s perspective) compared to the room state
The most puzzling bit was figuring out how to use hx-sync so that any POST request (e.g. clicking on an estimate) should cancel any existing long polling request for updates, since the POST request itself should return an updated version of the room. The semantics are a little hard to grok (what does it mean to sync “on” an element, requests from parent / child elements with hx-sync don’t interact the way I think they should, the examples for drop/abort/replace don’t seem right).
It was also my first time using fly.io to deploy an app, and flyctl makes it amazingly simple to do it. “Horizontal scaling” is done via associating a room with a fly-machine-id, so you can “visit” different machines via the copied room URL, and I successfully avoided using a shared database.
Feel free to use it, ask me anything / give me feedback here / open an issue on GitHub!

Description: Hey everyone,
My name is Lee Harris and I’m the VP of Engineering for Rev.com / Rev.ai.
Today, we are launching and open sourcing our current generation ASR models named “Reverb.”
When OpenAI launched Whisper at Interspeech two years ago, it turned the ASR world upside down. Today, Rev is building on that foundation with Reverb, the world’s #1 ASR model for long-form transcription – now open-source.
I am proud to announce that we are releasing two models today, Reverb and Reverb Turbo, through our API, self-hosted, and our open source + open weights solution.
----------
We are releasing in the following formats:
- A research-oriented release that doesn’t include our end to end pipeline and is missing our WFST (Weighted Finite-State Transducer) implementation. This is primarily in Python and intended for research, exploratory, or custom usage within your ecosystem.
- A developer-oriented release that includes our entire end-to-end pipeline for environments at any scale. It is a combination of C# for the APIs, C++ for our inference engine, and Python for various pieces.
- A new set of end-to-end APIs that are priced at $0.20/hour for Reverb and $0.10/hour for Reverb Turbo.
----------
What makes Reverb special?
- Reverb was trained on 200,000+ hours of extremely high quality and varied transcribed audio from Rev.com expert transcribers. This high quality data set was chosen as a subset from 7+ million hours of Rev audio.
- The model runs extremely well on CPU, GPU, iOS/Android, IoT, and other platforms. Our developer implementation is primarily optimized for x64 CPU today, but a GPU optimized version will be released this year.
- The model excels in noisy, real-world environments. Real data was used during the training and every audio was handled by an expert transcriptionist.
- You can tune your results for vertabimicity, allowing you to have nicely formatted, opinionated outputs OR true verbatim output. This is the #1 area where Reverb substantially outperforms the competition.
----------
Benchmarks
Here are some WER (word error rate) benchmarks on Rev’s various solutions for Earnings21 and Earnings22 (very challenging audio):
- Reverb
- Earnings21: 7.99 WER
Earnings22: 7.06 WER
Reverb Turbo
- Earnings21: 8.25 WER
Earnings22: 7.50 WER
Reverb Research
- Earnings21: 10.30 WER
Earnings22: 9.08 WER
Whisper large-v3
- Earnings21: 10.67 WER
Earnings22: 11.37 WER
Canary-1B
- Earnings21: 13.82 WER
Earnings22: 13.24 WER
Licensing
Our models are released under a non-commercial / research license that allow for personal, research, and evaluation use. If you wish to use it for commercial purposes, you have 3 options:
- Usage based API @ $0.20/hr for Reverb, $0.10/hr for Reverb Turbo.
- Usage based self-hosted container at the same price as our API.
- Unlimited use license at custom pricing. Contact us at [email protected].
----------
Final Thoughts
I highly recommend that anyone interested take a look at our fantastic technical blog written by one of our Staff Speech Scientists, Jenny Drexler Fox. We look forward to hearing community feedback and we look forward to sharing even more of our models and research in the near future. Thank you!

Description: Hi HN,
MageCDN is a simple and affordable image hosting service I have been working on for the past few weeks. The idea came out of my own frustration with hosting and optimizing images for my blog.
While platforms like Imgur make it really simple to upload images, they don’t allow you to embed them. Services like Cloudinary, Imagekit exist, but I found them too complex for my needs. Plus, they get really expensive past their free tier.
So, I started MageCDN with three simple goals:
- pricing should be affordable and scale linearly.
- basic image operations (resize, crop, optimize) should be doable within the app.
- uploading and getting a link you can use should be fast and hassle-free.
Would love to hear what you think!

Description: Hi HN, Lookie makes youtube videos readable by summarizing with as much detail as possible while removing other useless segments like sponsored sections. You can highlight and save necessary parts for easy access and chat with them (soon!).
It came out of personal need when I was traveling I found myself turning to youtube for most travel tips and good spots to visit/eat etc.
The process was too long and annoying to get through.
I also had to keep a separate note of the information on a notes app to come back to.
Cumbersome experience. So I built Lookie to make the videos readable/skim-able and highlight the parts for easy access later on the go.
Here is how it works: https://youtu.be/_6TCtL_4yI4
Hope you find it useful.
Give it a try, it is free.

Description: Hey HN, here Saul
After months of work ~7 months I created get-aboard, a tool to create onboarding / roadmaps for developers.
To give you some context: I’m a software developer since last 3.5 years, I’ve only worked for small / medium sized companies so far.
In all my jobs, I’ve noticed teams generally don’t have well-defined development processes as in large companies (at least that is what some friends told me). This is due to the agile culture involved on 1-10 devs teams.
For new developers (as happened to me several times) who join the team, onboarding can be annoying. You should start to know the tools they use: Do they use Jira or Asana?, What tech stack should I install?, Do they use Github, Gitlab, etc?, What do they use to communicate, Slack or Google Meet? In short, many things to configure before being productive.
That’s why I created get-aboard a tool to build onboardings as roadmaps. So, the main features are.
I’m happy to show you get-aboard on Hacker News today, hope your sincere feedback.
If you have any feedback/questions/suggestions, please let me know below!

Description: Hi everyone!
I made an alcohol tracker, with all the features that I wish other apps had when I was using them. In addition to the features you’d expect from an alcohol tracker, my app offers the following:
- Track water intake → remember to stay hydrated
- Cocktail presets → Presets like beer, wine, tequila etc. isn’t unheard of. But I wasn’t able to find an app that has presets for common cocktails, which I often go for. I had to investigate what’s in the cocktails and log them separately (which was quite bothersome especially while drinking at a bar, and the calorie values were still off) and there were quite some guesswork
- Quick add → Log an entry with an average alcohol content with a single click
And I designed the typical graphs, insights, analytics screens, drink logs display etc. in a way that I find made my overall tracking experience better.
What do y’all think? also, I’m thinking to add a drink calendar that shows your whole year with color coded days, green for 0 drinks, shades from green to yellow for the amount, red for over the limit etc.
Other fun ideas welcome :)
