1. Show HN: The classic Minesweeper on an irregular grid
URL: https://polyreplay.com/minesweepertwist
Author: frading
Description: I'm experimenting game mechanics that are usually seen on a typical grid, but transposed on an irregular one.
This is a first game based on Minesweeper.
The changes an irregular grid brings are that cells don't all have 8 neighbors. Some can have less, some can have more. So when you try and deduce if a tile has a mine, you have to pay closer attention at the number clues and which tiles neighbors it.
My intention is to make a very classic game a bit more challenging & fun.
I've also released a first version of Checkers/Draughts, and plan to test similar variants for Chess, Othello and Go.

3. Show HN: Attabit – AI powered news
URL: https://attabit.com/
Author: gordondavidf
Description: Hi HN! I built a GPT powered tool that searches for today's top news, creates article summaries with GPT4, and will even read those summaries aloud while scrolling down the page for you (just click 'Play Audio').
I instruct GPT4 to be as neutral (politically) as possible and to not cover tragedies with no historical significance.
What you get is a news site that heavily respects your time.
I've had a lot of fun building this for friends and family. I can imagine a future where we all have a personal version of this, searching for news we care about and eventually going beyond just aggregation and moving on to custom reporting.
Check it out and let me know your thoughts? Thanks.

4. Show HN: Glasskube v0.0.1 Technical Preview for a New Kubernetes Package Manager
URL: https://glasskube.dev/blog/technical-preview/
Author: pmig
Description: Hi folks,
We worked hard over the last couple of weeks to build a new package manager for Kubernetes that makes it super simple to install packages and solves some of the shortcomings of helm (dependency management, multi namespace installations, a GUI and CLI as first class interfaces).
We just released our source code on GitHub: https://github.com/glasskube/glasskube/ and looking for feedback!

6. Show HN: HN stories categorized by topics of interest
URL: https://hnto.pics/
Author: WhatsName
Description: Hi HN,
TL;DR: I made a website that takes all the top stories on HN and categorizes them into one of ten topics of interest using LangChain and GPT-4.
I've always liked the idea of getting a personal mix of news tailored to my interests. Hacker News is pretty close to that ideal, which is reflected in the time I spend on here every day.
It's a great mix, but playing with LangChain, I got the idea for a weekend project. Roughly speaking most posts on HN fall into one of these categories:
* Programming, Software & Computer Science
- AI, Data Science & Analytics
- Business & Entrepreneurship
- Science & Research
- Cybersecurity & Digital Safety
- Design, User Experience & Creativity
- Finance & Economics in Tech
- Work Culture & Career Development
- Media, Content & Communication
- General & Diverse Interests
Using langchain with GPT-4 Turbo (JSON mode), I sort every top submission into one of the above. Costs for using the API are currently at 15$ a month, with few optimizations. For ease of use I also added the possibility to consume the news topics via a responsive webpage, RSS and email digest (daily, weekly, monthly).

12. Show HN: Personal Financial Copilot
URL: https://project-hermes-ai.vercel.app/
Author: mrbishalsaha
Description: Hey guys, need your feedback on my side-project.
I am building a personal financial advisor to help with personal finances including transactional analysis, spends categorisation, anomaly detection in spends and budgeting plans. It's build with the Assistants API from OpenAI along with a data pipeline for ingestion where we operate OCR, scripting and other methods to improve the data and maths calculations to reduce hallucination.
It works by just uploading any financial docs from bank statements, credit reports to even receipts and invoices. We don't store any user info including files, chat history or anything for now and data is deleted in a period of 7 days. Any criticism like privacy, security and functionality issues, I am ready to discuss even if it's the tech stack.
I have 3 years of experience in building in Fintech, worked for 2 YC backed companies and have built a similar product called Pocket (https://getpocket.money). Happy to answer any questions, I mean any questions. Given enough support I could also open-source the codebase.
Waiting to hear back from you guys. Love you all

13. Show HN: Vibescape – Immersive Meditations for Apple Vision Pro
URL: https://www.apposite.ai/vibescape.html
Author: gdubs
Description: Hey folks, back with a new release! I'm very happy to share with you my day one immersive meditation app for Apple Vision Pro. It's called Vibescape, and it's available today!
This first version features a series of meditative vignettes, shot on Spatial Video, on location in the Pacific Northwest. Dramatic Douglas Fir stands sway in a winter storm. Ripples undulate in pools of water in a 19th century quarry. Icy-ASMR in a fern covered forest.
You can also set up a custom meditation timer, either silent or from a selection of deep ambient noise, and transport yourself to truly unique immersive environments.
It was a lot of fun building this – from braving an ice storm to capture these vignettes for you, to developing something once again for a brand new platform. It was almost 15 years ago I took that leap when creating Polychord for iPad. Similar vibes. Hope you check it out, and let me know what you think! Lots planned for version 2, but hearing what would excite you the most would make a huge difference.

I kept running into this kind of problem in my career but couldn't find a package that addressed it already, so here it is!
Security is hard, the more people's eyes we get on a piece of code the safer we can make it. Check it out, and let me know if you think things could be improved!

15. Show HN: Knowledge Sharing Protocol via semantic lookup with use in LLMs
URL: https://github.com/BerenOfEdain/SemanticLookupProtocol/blob/main/README.md
Author: BerenOfEdain
Description: A great way to enhance chatbots is to allow them to look up information for context, typically using a vectordb.
If you have writings you would like to share with others, you can offer a server that allows others to do semantic lookup, and that way anyone can have a chatbot which can pull from your writing.
The goal of this project is to have a protocol that makes that easy. Strictly speaking, the protocol is for semantic retrieval and doesn't require using LLMs although LLMs are the motivating application.
For far more details and how to get a demo up and running, see the readme.

17. Show HN: Octet Zone – Write IPv6 addresses in IPv4-style octet notation
URL: https://octet.zone/
Author: jangxx
Description: Have you ever asked yourself the question if it would be nice to write IPv6 addresses in decimal octets instead of hexadecimal groups of 16-bits before? No? Well, now you can do it anyway.
I read a comment on here recently about how people always ask why IPv6 is not like IPv4 but with more octets. That gave me the idea to write a little DNS server that dynamically resolves an address like
38.6.40.0.2.32.0.1.2.72.24.147.37.200.25.70.octet.zone
to
2606:2800:220:1:248:1893:25c8:1946 (example.com)
Is this useful or more readable? I don't think so, but I still think it's interesting to see an IPv6 address written out like this. The server also has some convenience features like supporting the :: shorthand in IPv6 by adding an underscore as one of the subdomains. This means that - for example - the address
32.1.72.96.72.96._.136.136.octet.zone
resolves to
2001:4860:4860::8888 (Google DNS)
The website also has a little conversion tool so you don't have to do the hex -> decimal conversion yourself.
This is not really a serious endeavor and more of a little toy project to get started with Rust, but it was nonetheless fun to work on.

29. Show HN: Generate silly movie trailers with AI
URL: #
Author: areichert
Description: This is a toy project I've been hacking on, and it's a bit rough around the edges, but I'd love for people to try it out! https://aitrailers.xyz
Some examples of videos people have generated:
* An action movie starring a corgi: https://aitrailers.xyz/examples/paws-of-power
- A children's movie about a mischievous monkey: https://aitrailers.xyz/examples/cheeky-monkey
- And a "thriller" my friend Mark generated about how he lost one of his Airpods in a tissue box: https://aitrailers.xyz/examples/marks-lost-earbud
So far it's been fun to see what people have come up with, but the quality of the output varies quite a bit... I'd love to get any feedback on the app so far, and also curious if anyone has any advice on the following:
* What is the best way to improve character consistency across images? (I currently just try to construct each image prompt such that a vivid visual description of the main character and the overall aesthetic is the same across images, but I've had limited success with this.)
- Have any other tools caught up to GPT-4 and DALL-E for things like this? (I've tinkered with some models on Replicate, but nothing is quite as good as OpenAI's APIs as far as I can tell.)
- Are there any good "wrappers" for ffmpeg? I'm currently using a combination of ffmpeg and moviepy, but it surprises me that there isn't an "easier" way to generate videos. (Ffmpeg is super powerful, but it’s API is a bit unintuitive)

30. Show HN: Enterprise-Grade Groundhog API
URL: https://groundhog-day.com/api
Author: pcraig3
Description: API for North America's predicting groundhogs at: https://groundhog-day.com/api
Example queries:
- Get all groundhogs: https://groundhog-day.com/api/v1/groundhogs
- Get all predictions for 1 groundhog: https://groundhog-day.com/api/v1/groundhogs/lucy-the-lobster
- Get all predictions for a year: https://groundhog-day.com/api/v1/predictions?year=2024
This year’s models are still only capable of a binary result but I am looking into Groundhog Day Custom Assistants which may eventually be launched on the Groundhog Day Store for all manner of predictive needs. Big tech has been sleeping on hibernating on Groundhog assistants which is why I believe this is the moment to dig deep and make some bold predictions.
If you need an on-prem installation, I can accommodate that as well.

32. Show HN: Red Team in a Box: Alert your blue team from a web browser
URL: https://www.rtiabdemo.com/
Author: tmoore_sht
Description: Hello Everyone!
I came up with the idea of performing Red Team activities from within the context of a browser, using client side code to see of the organization could detect the activity. Originally intended to be free but also be used as a lead generator.
The idea was basically "If you can't detect these things, why are you even bothering with a Red Team?"

35. Show HN: Teleport 360° Camera – Take 360° photos on iPhone to view on Vision Pro
URL: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/teleport-360-camera/id6476905405
Author: martinmaly21
Description: Hello HN!
A couple years back, a few of my VFX friends and I set out to create an iPhone app that allowed you to take 360° spherical HDRi photos to light your 3D scene (https://hdreye.app). This led us down the rabbit hole of taking a spherical photo using your iPhone. To our surprise, the only iPhone app that had allowed a user to take these types of photos was Google Street View, but had since been discontinued.
With the release of the Vision Pro later today, we believe these types of photos will hold much more value.
As a result, we’ve created Teleport: 360° Camera. Teleport allows you to take a 360° spherical photo using just your iPhone or iPad, and then view it in full immersion on your Vision Pro (or your iPhone or iPad).
We’re eager to get some initial feedback.

37. Show HN: AI-Powered DocuSign Alternative
URL: https://www.signeasynow.com/solutions/startups
Author: alexleon35
Description: I've been working in online PDF editing for years, starting as the second engineer at NotaryCam, which was later acquired by Stewart. After leaving, I noticed the extremely high costs of commercial PDF software and decided to build my own solution, focusing on essential features like adding annotations and modifying PDFs. This project has attracted a good size user base (~200 MAU).
With these core PDF manipulation tools, I’m aiming to offer better, more affordable e-sign solutions for niche markets. I've integrated features like chat-with-AI that I know have the potential to improve the document preparation and signing process. There are fantastic opportunities out there, but I need help.
I'm on the hunt for organizations of any size that handle over 100 documents annually and are not 100% thrilled with their existing provider, ie. DocuSign. If you know any, or if your organization is on the lookout for a better, more cost-effective e-signing tool, please let me know (alex@signeasynow.com)! Your feedback would make a huge difference.
