Description: A dead-simple web app to find the best time for your next meetup with friends. No logins, no bloat. Schedule with a link.

---

When trying to schedule events with my friends, we often have a long text thread of sporadic dates and the group has to mentally combine all the messages to produce a date that works for all.

There are plenty of apps out there to coordinate scheduling, but I found many of them were bloated with features that didn't matter to us, required user sign ups and app downloads. This friction is enough for us to prefer rudimentary long text threads. I wanted something that I could post in the thread once, my friends can add their availability on their own time (and can edit), and we can continue on our conversation.

WAYF (When are you free?) is a fun side project that solves this issue. Bare-bones scheduling for what days you are free. No user accounts, no downloads, just paste a link and anyone can schedule. It's completely free.

I hope you like it and find it useful, I would love feedback.

Show HN: HNRelevant – Explore Related Discussions on HN in an Integrated Sidebar - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/imdj/HNRelevant

Author: imadj

Description: Reading submissions here, I often feel intrigued and want to explore more interconnected or similar stories. The process of googling and going back and forth didn't feel natural. So, I made this browser extension that adds a related submissions section for HN's layout. The results are displayed in a sidebar right in the page's layout using HN native style just like other elements.

I enjoy being knee-deep in discussions. Many times you're learning about something new, where the topic is either unfamiliar, thought-provoking, or just could use some context that you don't even know about. If a submission is interesting enough for me to click on, chances are I'd like to dig deeper into this topic and there are more related discussions that offer new context or perspective.

This is an extension that I always have on so I paid special attentions to UX to make it intuitive and seamless and now the extension has become just part of the HN experience for me. Implementation-wise, it integrates https://hn.algolia.com/ API and uses the submission title as its initial query with the ability to change the query and other options interactively.

It's available on: Chrome, Firefox, and as a userscript.

Chrome:https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/hnrelevant/iajhnkei...

Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hnrelevant/

I shared it earlier last year when it was early in development, barely a prototype, at the time it wasn't yet published and could only be used on chrome by "load unpacked": https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36102610. I've been using it daily since and I'm happy to share it now for you to give it a try.

Show HN: Dead Horse, a real time online text adventure - Project Screenshot

URL: https://deadhorse.eurydice.me/

Author: gpxyz

Description: Hi HN !

I built a text adventure as a way of learning Flask / app development. It runs in browser (hosted on a cheap DO droplet). I've been wanting more games like Animal Crossing that take place in real time, so this game has a real time clock and moon phase system.

I've never shared something like this on here before so I hope this is OK. Happy to answer any questions about it!

Author: mrkaye97

Description: Hey everyone!

I've been building Zen since I was on the job hunt and realized it was harder than it should've been to just get notifications when a company I was interested in posted a job that was relevant to me.

It's come a long way since then, but the core mission is still the same: It's a seeker-first job searching tool, with no promoted content, no ads, no recruiter spam, and so on.

18. Show HN: Srgn, AST-aware text manipulation

Show HN: Srgn, AST-aware text manipulation - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/alexpovel/srgn

Author: alexpovel

Description: srgn is a niche source code (or just text) manipulation tool. It's written in Rust, with performance in mind. I used it to learn the language a while back, in order to work towards something resembling "useful in the real world".

Think of srgn as a blend of rip-grep, tree-sitter and GNU tr/sed. At its core, it most closely resembles tr, but expands on it in two important ways.

First, srgn provides scoping, used to specify what part of an input to work on. This can be literal text, regular expressions, or tree-sitter queries. The latter is the most interesting one. As tree-sitter queries can be tough to construct (although the tool is excellent, with an online playground for testing and more), srgn has pre-defined queries and makes an effort to unify these across languages. For example, across TypeScript, C#, Go, Rust and Python, you can specify to scope all "comments", and it (hopefully) just works as expected, despite these languages having different ideas of how comments work and look like (C# has multi-line and inline, for example, while Python only has a single type, all of which is also reflected in what tree-sitter calls those corresponding nodes).

Secondly, there's actions, which simply perform text manipulation on whatever is in scope from the previous step. One could delete certain parts of all comments, for example, or rewrite all import statements across an entire code base (https://github.com/alexpovel/srgn#mass-import-module-renamin...).

I had looked around a bunch for similar tools (https://github.com/alexpovel/srgn#similar-tools), but couldn't find any that quite did what srgn does.

The CLI is a rather thin wrapper around the Rust library, which is usable in the usual way.

By the way, the name srgn stands for surgeon, in the sense of a code surgeon: precise manipulation of text. Regular expressions and tree-sitter queries can be combined, which turns out to be much more powerful than either of these by itself, and also fills a different niche than LSP-powered Rename all-like features. It can also be used in CI, as a simple custom linter ("fail if you find any 'TODO' strings in comments").

A lot of the use cases can be covered by just regex, and then fixing mistakes manually; srgn mainly inches the precision of these operations closer to 100%, for when it's needed (like large refactors, where srgn offers full parallelization as well).
