3. Show HN: Sendenv, a CLI tool to share environment variables
URL: https://github.com/viraniaman94/sendenv
Author: aster0id
Description: My weekend project sendenv is a CLI tool that lets you share environment variables securely with someone else. It is built on top of magic-wormhole which allows for safe, account-free data transfer. When you send variables using sendenv, it creates a one-time code. You give this code to the person who needs the variables. They use the code in their shell to load the variables. This is handy for quickly setting up new team members or copying local environment variables to another system.
Its currently in alpha obviously, but the core functionality works (I have tested sending vaults from a Macbook Air M1 to a ubuntu ec2 instance). I have a lot of follow up ideas to make this better, but wanted the community's feedback before I invest more time on this.
Thanks for reading!

13. Show HN: Frec lets you tax loss harvest the S&P 500 via direct indexing
URL: https://frec.com/app/demo/direct-indexing
Author: mo-adham
Description: Hello - I’m the founder of Frec. We built a direct indexing product that lets you tax loss harvest the S&P 500 or the S&P Information Technology indexes for a low 0.10% fee and a minimum deposit of $20k. You can start your direct index with cash or contribute stock you already have. Our historical simulations based on 20-years of data show that we harvest ~40% of every deposit back in capital losses over a period of 5 years. I linked to a live demo account with a real $50k deposit made on Dec 5, 2023. The account shows that our trades track the S&P very closely. As of January 21, our direct index is at $52,808.43 whereas SPY would’ve been at $52,815.79. Our direct index harvested $357.60 in losses despite the market being 5.97% up.
Is this something you would use? And if not, what are your biggest reservations? Do you have product feedback for us?
Also - we are hiring an iOS engineer and other roles! contact me at mo@frec.com

14. Show HN: Open-source gamified community platform
URL: https://github.com/dir-zip/community
Author: dillonraphael
Description: Hey! Wanted to showcase this project I’ve been passionately working on.
It’s an open source community platform built with the nextjs app router.
There’s lots of cool features, but the main one I’m excited about is the gamification.
There’s a badge and inventory system. Admins can set value to user actions like creating a post. Then a user can use their accumulated points to purchase items that have modifiers on things like your username or avatar.
There’s zero vendor lock in and all you need is a:
- redis server
- s3 storage
- smtp server
Built with nextjs and prisma. Would love your thoughts and opinion. If you have any issues getting it running feel free to ping me on x at @dillonraphael

15. Show HN: We're working on a startup to reduce space debris
URL: #
Author: afrederico
Description: The Kessler Syndrome (aka the Kessler Effect) posits that space debris colliding with other space debris could render satellite operation, let alone space exploration, very difficult, if not downright dangerous.
The mission of our startup is to get a handle on this problem right now by operating continuously (and autonomously) to decommission old satellites and remove debris chunks. We have an advantage over our competitors in that we won't run expensive "expendable" missions but instead stay up and clean up.

URL: https://turmfalke.httpd.app

Description: Hey HN,
we developed a land cover model that works pretty well at least for Austria.
Obviously it's not perfect and there is still lots of stuff to improve, but it's important to provide reproducible research artifacts in a world driven more and more by AI-based decision making.
This is the first alpha release and the presentation needs some work, but the principal idea has been shown feasible.
Stay tuned.
Cheers and happy coding.

24. Show HN: CamGeoPlayer a free video GPS viewer
URL: https://yash.info/camgeoplayer/
Author: yashg
Description: I recently got a new dashcam for car, the Viofo A119 Mini 2. It has inbuilt GPS. The coordinates are displayed on the video as well as embedded in the video metadata. I was looking for a video player that would display the video and show the GPS data on a map. I found a paid product but the trial version was limited to loading 2 videos only. And the UI was ugly as hell. I tried searching for other free apps but couldn't find any.
So I built one myself - CamGeoPlayer. It's still in beta. I have only tested it with the videos from my dashcam. Need to test with sample footage from other dashcams.
It's a simple Windows application. You can load multiple videos in the queue and it will play them one by one and show the GPS data on a map along with a moving marker that moves along with the video.
It is built using .Net and utilises open source tools like Exiftool for extracting GPS data from videos, Leaflet and OpenStreetMap for maps.
There is no installer, just download the zip file (119 MB), extract it and run CamGeoPlayer.exe. It requires .Net Framework 4.8 which should be preinstalled in your computer if you have Windows 10 or 11.
This is the first beta version so there will be bugs. If you can share some sample videos with embedded GPS data from your dashcam, action cam, or drone then I can test with them and make it better.
It's a free software. I intend to keep it free. Try it out and let me know your thoughts.

26. Show HN: D4pi: Diablo4 Item Filter Inside Web Browser
URL: https://d4pi.com/
Author: twy30
Description: D4pi turns Diablo4 item screenshots into searchable, filterable data.
* Hassle-Free Click-and-Go Demo right on the Landing Page
* Everything runs locally inside your web browser -- Thanks to Next.js, OpenCV.js, and Tesseract.js. Source Code: https://github.com/d4pi/web-app
* Configurable -- the default settings work the best with 1080p (1920*1020) screenshots taken with the default in-game brightness setting.
---
Hello, frontend newbie here, still [1] trying to learn by doing :)
After Diablo4 season 0 & 1, and 2/3 thru season 2; I promised myself not to play any more Diablo4 without some sort of automated/tool-assisted item filtering. So here D4pi is: Diablo4 Item Filter inside Web Browser.
It feels awesome to go from an idea to an actual thing. I hope you find it intriguing. Feedback is always much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

URL: https://www.weco.ai/
Author: yuxiangwu
Description: Hi HN,
In the past couple of months we are working on an AutoML Agent that can help data scientists and machine learners to accelerate their work. Here is how Weco AIDE works:
1. Simply describe your task and data in natural language instruction, then upload your dataset. 2. Leave it to AIDE to analyze your data, iteratively crafting, evaluating, and refining solutions. 3. Download the optimized ML solution (code), as well as a report that summarizes its findings.
Join our waitlist here https://www.weco.ai/!
Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback! I am really curious how such an agent can accelerate data science work and speed-up data driven scientific research.

38. Show HN: A-to-P – Convert articles into podcasts
URL: #
Author: collinc777
Description: Hi HN – I’m excited to share my open source project a-to-p (article to podcast) available at https://github.com/collinc777/a-to-p. A to P is a simple web app that converts any article to a conversational podcast experience. You can try it out here: https://a-to-p.vercel.app/
I’ve explored text-to-speech (TTS) for articles using tools like Speechify. However, I noticed a gap: TTS lacked the engagement I found in podcasts. I think there’s two reasons why:
1. Articles are visually oriented, while podcasts are audio-centric. 2. The personal connection we develop with our favorite podcasters.
Addressing this, a-to-p leverages AI to bridge the gap. The idea is to morph articles into a format resembling podcast transcripts before applying TTS. This approach, in my experience, significantly enhances engagement compared to standard TTS.
The roadmap for a-to-p includes:
- Tackling the content and length alterations in the transformation process.
- Implementing open-source LLMs for generating transcripts.
- Integrating high-quality, affordable open-source TTS models.
- Adding Intro and Outro segments for a complete podcast experience.
I’m eager for any feedback or contributions to the project. Your insights can greatly shape a-to-p’s future!
