Note that GodotOS is more of a toy than a serious project. It's meant to push the limits on UI design in Godot while creating a desktop that is minimalist, distraction-free, and aesthetically pleasing. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Apologies for posting again, but I forgot to include "Show HN" in the title, and when I did post yesterday Hackernews almost immediately went down for over an hour, which is unfortunate.

9. Show HN: Bend 2.0 API for transaction enrichment/CO2e estimates
Author: thomasmost
Description: Heyy HN. We’re celebrating 2 years of Bend’s existence as a company and we’ve launched a new API to help you understand the climate impact of business activity, and/or embed climate data in your application.
For most companies, 80% of your emissions are from the goods and services that you buy. Unless you’re running a power plant or an airline, odds are you’re not directly combusting lots of fossil fuels. But literally everything we buy has some upstream climate impact, whether it’s the flights and Ubers that we purchase, or our AWS bills (that run on grids powered by natural gas), all the way through to the computer / phone that you’re reading this on, in an office that is heated and cooled with some amount of coal, etc. And according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, all these indirect emissions count towards your company’s inventory (‘scope 3’ emissions).
The problem is that figuring out how to estimate the emissions from all the thousands of things a company purchases is a hard data science problem. The best methodology may be different for any given item, and the relevant data is scattered all over the place.
We’ve unified it under our v2 API. Here’s how it works: Transactions: For any financial transaction, we match the transaction vendor across our database of tens-of-thousands of vendors and return an emissions estimate based on the specific company’s climate profile, as well as any public decarbonization commitments or targets they’ve set. (There’s a big difference between $100 spent at Chevron vs $100 spent at Apple, for instance) Buildings: For your office (if you still have an office!) we use data gathered by the government and specific grid-intensity info, along with your square footage, to estimate the climate impact there. Flights: For flight route information we’ve wrapped a calculator created by the International Air Transport Association in a simple API.
With the SEC set to announce new climate disclosure requirements in April, and more large companies requiring their vendors to report Greenhouse Gas inventories, Bend is on a mission to make it easy for any company to understand their climate impact.
We hope you find it useful — we’d love your feedback! The Estimate APIs are 100% free and always will be; the Enrichment API is a paid service but includes a generous free tier of 100 API calls / month. And of course, our dream is that you’ll be inspired to plug this data into your stack, surfacing sustainability insights to your customers.
You can get a trial key at https://bend.green/trial-key
Thanks!

10. Show HN: iOS Grocery List App Powered by Whisper and GPT4
URL: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/honeydo-speak-snap-and-shop/id6473463998?platform=iphone
Author: cocoapriest
Description: Hey,
I'm an iOS engineer who took on the seemingly mad task of creating a new grocery app in this day and age. Yes, there are plenty out there, but I promise there's a method to my madness.
It's born out of a personal need – my wife would rattle off a list of things to buy, and I'd struggle to remember them all. She's not a fan of typing into apps or shared notes, and honestly, neither am I when it's about speed. The epiphany was that all existing grocery apps have an input problem. They're not catering to the way real people communicate about errands. So, I built HoneyDo to solve my own problem, which I suspect might be yours too.
Here's how it works: You or your partner can tell HoneyDo what to buy in a natural, conversational manner. "We need eggs, milk, and don't forget the chocolate cake that's near the entrance." Whisper and GPT4 processes this and voila, a neatly organized list appears on both your phones (synced via iCloud).
Technically speaking, I've crafted a full-stack solution with Swift (it's a native iOS app), and a Node.js-powered backend on AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, and OpenAI's API.
I'd love to get feedback. Whether it's about the UI/UX, the technical stack, or how the app performs in real-life scenarios, I'm all ears. I'm here to learn and improve, so please, be brutally honest.

11. Show HN: A GitHub App That Turns Checkboxes into To-Do's
URL: https://github.com/marketplace/to-do-guard
Author: baobaba
Description: I built a GitHub app that checks for uncompleted checkboxes within pull request comments and blocks the merge if found.
This allows you to treat checkboxes as to-do’s and:
* Open pull requests with a to-do list template -> make sure all steps are completed before merging
* Leave to-do reminders for yourself as you work on a pull request
* Leave to-do reminders for someone else as part of your code review
Especially useful for large PRs with collapsed comments.

12. Show HN: A Dark Mode Toggle Without JavaScript
URL: https://tymekdev.github.io/no-js-dark-mode-toggle/
Author: TymekDev
Description: Today I scratched my itch of implementing a dark mode toggle without JacaScript. The implementations I saw typically revolved about adding a 'dark' class to body via JS and then controlling it with JS handlers.
Thanks to :has()
selector [0], that passed 90% browser compatibility [1], it is possible to avoid JS.
My implementation uses CSS variables combined with a checkbox, :checked
, and :has()
. It is simple, yet supports color scheme preference and updates toggle's label based on active mode.

URL: https://github.com/measuredco/base16-measured-scheme
Author: mono_spaced
Description: Needed a syntax-highlighting theme for displaying code samples on our company blog, but found my favourite editor themes did not have WCAG-conformant color contrast. And the accessibility-focused themes I found didn't fit well with our site aesthetic.
I'm sure there are such themes out there, but for our use I built these Measured Light & Dark schemes. Pleased with the results, so have open-sourced them and made them available to the base16 ecosystem.
Happy theming!

15. Show HN: LLM-Companion: push-to-talk + TTS web chat app for OpenAI-like APIs
URL: https://github.com/lxe/llm-companion
Author: lxe
Description: llm-companion is a rather fast and high-quality (I think) TTS push-to-talk chat interface with OpenAI-compatible LLM APIs, such as OpenAI, Oobabooga, vllm, llama.cpp, etc.
It uses Whisper for transcription (local), StyleTTS2 for TTS (also local).
Here's a little demo video if it in action: https://twitter.com/lxe/status/1745348827983560991
It uses streaming for both LLM results and TTS, which significantly decreases the interaction latency as compared to something like ChatGPT Voice mode.
The goal was to create a fully self-contained locally-running AI chat app, and this is the result.
Enjoy!

25. Show HN: NextJS starter to build apps with image / text gen / vector search
URL: https://www.templateai.co/
Author: abrowniejr
Description: Hi HN! I'm Aryan, the maker of TemplateAI. I tinkered with a bunch of AI side projects in 2023 and realized I'm repeating a lot of the same stuff: calling text and image gen models, setting up vector search and generating embeddings, storing everything, building components for chats and generated content. Plus dozens of hours spent building the rest of stack – auth, payments, dashboard and landing etc.
I packaged it all into one NextJS template so others can skip past the boilerplate and go straight to the AI features.
The template is designed for three big use cases: image generation, text generation, and vector search / retrieval. It uses a slightly opinionated stack: TypeScript-first with NextJS (App router), Supabase as the database layer, OpenAI's LLMs for text generation, Replicate API for image generation, and tools like LangChain and Vercel ai sdk to simplify RAG and response streaming.
For authentication and vector databases, I stuck with Supabase Auth and pgvector to avoid adding yet another piece to an already-complicated stack. (There's certainly other vectorstores out there that would speed up retrieval that I'm considering adding to the template.) Also wanted to make sure everything's launch-friendly, so I added in landing page components, a Stripe integration, and more.
Please check out TemplateAI and share your thoughts and feedback, thanks!

26. Show HN: I built yet another ChatGPT Chrome extension
URL: https://readpal.ai
Author: experisy
Description: Hey HN,
I’m here to introduce you my first of hopefully-many-projects-to-come this year: ReadPal.ai, a chrome extension that let’s you chat with ANY web pages while browsing.
Let’s first address the elephant in the room: there are tons of chrome extensions of sorts out there…Why did I choose to work on this? Over the years, I’ve had many projects started that never crossed the finishing line; and also many ideas that’s dauntingly ambitious that I never even started. So I chose this project, in the hope that its moderate size & scope can help me finally exercise the build→ship muscle. And I must say, it has served its purpose.
I thought it would just be a weekend project, however, end up dragging it for months…With the pressure of the year-end and the free time in the holiday season, I finally got to the ship phase!
During the process of building, testing, and beta testing, I came across two revelations about the product:
- Having AI side by side with access to the same information as you is very helpful! It's not just about summarizing long research papers, but even simple day-to-day activities can benefit from it. e.g. asking “is this miso good for making ramen?” on a miso product page on amazon, etc.
- Despite a lot of similar extensions, there is still room for differentiation! The average user who isn’t intentionally following the developments in the AI field, can benefit from a tool that simplifies the complexity of various models & prompting techniques, and focuses on providing a user experience that seamlessly integrates with their workflows.
There is still a long way to go in terms of the second point. Your feedback would be very helpful with that! Thank you!!

28. Show HN: I built an affordable alternative to Spotify and YouTube Music Premium
URL: https://ytb-music-loop.web.app/
Author: faustoct
Description: Hey guys,
I had to cancel my spotify premium subscription which was a terrible thing once I like to listen music in loop while coding or at the gym.
So I decided to code myself something cool to solve my own problem that makes possible listen music in loop and without ads. I took a night off and started coding something.. so that's how I built Youtube Music Loop.
I know many ppl like to listen music but not everyone can afford to pay, so it's a lite affordable version of spotify and youtube premium, where you can:
- Keep listen music without ads.
- Synch your playlist through all your devices.
- Listen music in loops and without ads.
- Search for your fav music or just copy and past the link of youtube song (when search api doesn't reach its limit).
- Get it as pwa / app in your phone home screen.
- Works on pc and laptops, tablets and mobile devices.
- Easy and simple to use, no fluffy stuff.
It's an affordable option and you pay once and use it forever, which is more than half of youtube and spotify premium subscription price.
You check it here: https://ytb-music-loop.web.app/
Let me know what you think and improvements you like to see, I have made many improvements as you can see here and here.

Description: I initially built this one for myself. When working from home and with multiple clients, I had to manually add my appointments so that my colleagues wouldn't accidentally book that time. After a while, it just became tedious and I decided to build this out.
I think this will be useful for anyone working with multiple calendars and also service providers who manage appointments through calendars.
Looking forward for your feedback!
Also, appreciate any inputs on the pricing, ideally I would prefer this to have it as a buy once software, but I'm afraid the APIs would evolve and that would need continued work on my side.
