Show HN: Hacker News User Information on Hover - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/ConsoleScript/hnuser

Author: system2

Description: Hello friends,

It probably exists or someone made it before but I couldn't find it so I created one myself. I also noticed people check each other's profiles often so this might come in handy.

Screenshot of the usage (ignore the red arrow it doesn't come with the extension): https://imgur.com/a/gvJ93ne

This Chrome extension does one simple thing. If you want to check the user information listed in the profile including username, creation date, karma, and about. You just need to hover over the username. I was clicking on users before and it was a waste of time I thought and created this simple extension.

The delay is set to 0.5 seconds so when you move your cursor over users while navigating you don't send requests to the HN by accident.

Cheers.

7. Show HN: LangCSS, the AI Assistant for Tailwind

Show HN: LangCSS, the AI Assistant for Tailwind - Project Screenshot

URL: https://langcss.com/

Author: _clv4

Description: Hi Everyone,

This is very early preview of an idea I am working on.

The idea is to help you do designs using AI, outputting tailwind classes.

I think tailwind is particularly suited because you can usually "drop in" the styles created here into a bigger tailwind project no problems, whereas with regular CSS you might be "fighting" the CSS sheets, especially if they are semantically defined (e.g. input has styling rather than .input).

For a link to try this out, at the moment there is no login system or security, just go to https://langcss.com/app - if I get too much traffic I might need to turn it off! The posted links is kind of the "sale pitch" and you can add your email if you want to follow how it is going, but no need to if you don't want to.

It is basic, it is one of those much frowned upon "OpenAI wrappers" :-) but I intend to do more over time. For example give it knowledge of many free components, allow more collaboration with an online editor so you can make tweaks, then get the AI to iterate on that, and convert HTML to React, Vue etc. (using non-AI compilers).

I have been dogfooding this, and it help me design the home page logo, and many of the elements there. The footer was wholesale taken from the AI output.

Show HN: I built an automatic film development machine - Project Screenshot

URL: https://kauzerei.github.io/openautolab/

Author: kauzerei

Description: Remember that old cameras on which you cannot preview the picture you've just made? Cameras that can't shoot more than 36 pictures in a row, and those pictures are on film which needs to be processed with chemistry? OpenAutoLab allows to automatically process those films at home.

What's done: Two prototypes are built and tested by developing lots of films. All necessary 3d-printed parts and electronic schematics as well as source code are published. Most of build and usage instructions are written and published. A short video introduction is cut and published.

What I will update soon: Missing pictures from build instructions. Full length video of building the machine. Full length video of using the machine.

What needs to be done: Public testing. Can't wait when someone else builds this thing.

URL: https://www.kylheku.com/cygnal/

Author: kazinator

Description: Cygnal provides a forked CYGWIN1.DLL which bends some of the semantics toward native Windows behaviors, turning Cygwin into a run-time library for Windows programs.

Not only is this useful for porting programs from Unix-like platforms to Windows as native applications, but Windows programs can be developed which take advantage of not only Windows APIs, but the Cygwin build environment and POSIX run-time.

16. Show HN: Retrieval Evaluations Framework

Show HN: Retrieval Evaluations Framework - Project Screenshot

URL: https://github.com/DeployQL/retri-evals

Author: mtbarta

Description: Hey all,

Matt here. We've been working on building retrieval pipelines for LLMs, and like many others we questioned how changes to our pipeline (e.g. chunking, cleaning) would affect the overall outcome.

We also faced a problem of what data to evaluate against. MTEB datasets are used in the literature, but we found it difficult to use our existing processing pipelines with it. We also didn't want to manually label a dataset, because it would be difficult to hand-label a representative dataset.

Retri-evals is hoping to solve these problems. We pulled out our MTEB abstractions that let us evaluate against open source datasets, and we're going to open source the code we use to automatically generate evaluation datasets from production data.

I'd love to hear your thoughts! We're looking to complement existing solutions in this space with tooling that makes it easier to get to production.
